Tenerife vs Morroco for early Nov sun

Hi All

Wanted some advice, we're planning a holiday for the first 2 weeks of Nov for some winter sun, can anyone whos been to both advise on the best destination to go to? will be the usual cultural tours and sightseeing type of hol.

We're not really ones for laying by the beach but we do love a sea view wherever we're staying.

We've not been to either destination so would be great to get some feedback from people who have :)

  • We always head to Tenerife in November and really enjoy it. The weather has always been really good, and we just tend to have a relaxing time. We stay in Los Cristianos in the south of the island, which still has a bit of Spanish character, but there's Puerto de la Cruz in the north which is also nice, although the weather in the north can be more mixed due to the location of Mt Teide. There's plenty to see in Tenerife, including Mt Teide and various island tours, as well as Loro Park. I haven't been to Morocco myself, and am not tempted to go there at the moment, but I would think that the weather in Tenerife would be better in November.

Been to Tenerife a few times, my husband has been to Morocco. His opinion was Tenerife is better to relax in, Morocco is very much a “in your face” place, the shop keepers very pushy you are not left alone, locals badger most of the time.

If you have a quick look on a map then you can see that the canaries are just off the Moroccan coast, weather will be similar though the islands are obviously more maritime so probably slightly cooler and windier, though they are a bit further south than coastal resorts in Morocco.

More potential variety and interesting sights in Morocco, I thought eassaouria was lovely in Morocco, we were there three nights I think but very scenic and atmospheric. Less of interest on Tenerife apart form the mountains really, if you diy I'd be tempted to go to Morocco and maybe Tenerife for a package.

A great place to visit on Tenerife is La Laguna...

We were on a cruise berthed in Santa Cruz, and got the tram to La Laguna. The tram goes up, up, and further up. Beautiful town, hardly any tourists.

We D-i-Y'd Morocco for a couple of weeks.....Marrakesh [in your face, marmite destination, we enjoyed it].....train to Casablanca [dump, with a few nice restaurants].....train to Fes [the Medina and souqs are in another world].....train to Rabat [Capital city, very colonial French and quite pretty].....train back to Marrakesh. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, easy to do independently with the usual planning.
  • Tenerife for sure if these are your only options

I can't comment on Tenerife as I've never been there but in order to avoid repeating my reasons for not going to Morocco from other threads, I'd simply describe it as a "giant cat litter tray".
  • Thank you all for the replies some great points :)

The main goal was to go somewhere not too far (max 5 hours flight time) and we really wanted to avoid the rain, now also looking at Madeira, looks like we may have to accept a bit of rain though at the time we're looking to go unless someone can think of somewhere else..

Are you including Agadir and Essouira?

How about Lazarote? We're going early December - never been myself but the in-laws go every year and they love it.

Yes - I'd rather go back to the Middle East and that's saying something.
