Using CFL Lamps
I have acquired 4 Compact Fluorescent UV Lamps (2 Pin G23 fitting) from ebay and want to utilize them to make a homemade UV lightbox for photosensitive copper clad boards. Not knowing anything about these types of bulbs can anyone tell me whether they can be connected directly to the fitting/holder (which I am still yet to find) without ballasts and/or starters.

You need a ballast. Most CFL ballasts these days are electronic which means they are self-starting and don't need an external starter.
Your ballasts need to be matched to the tube wattage - e.g. 9W tubes require a 9 W ballast.0
