Mobile Phone insurance for a handset bought abroad

Hi all,
First time poster here. Apologies if I'm breaking any rules or if this has been brought up before - I did try to search but came up empty-handed.
I recently went to Hong Kong on holiday and bought a new handset as they're a little cheaper over there. I'm looking for insurance but almost all insurers state somewhere in their policies that the handset must have been purchased in the UK/ROI. I have found one company (Endsleigh) who will insure phones purchased abroad, but they are quoting £16 per month which seems a little high (even O2 were charging less for my previous top-end phone!)
It's a Samsung Galaxy S8+, and it was bought from a trusted retail chain in HK (Fortress) and I have full proof of purchase.
Are there any other sites out there that will cover a phone purchased abroad, or any other options open to me?
Thanks in advance!

Look after the phone and dont take out insurance is my advice, put the amount you would pay for the policy into a savings account.0

As above - self-insuring the handset is the way to go. Some gadget policies will cover the purchase if it was made from the manufacturer abroad, however few if any will cover the item if purchased from a non-manufacturer source abroad as you've found out.
Failing that, if you are unwilling to self-insure then keep the receipt and claim under your contents if it goes missing.0
