LLoyds TSB - Charges question

Options
Hey guys,

I need some advice.

On the 28th September I went overdrawn on my overdraft because I didn't have any money to cover the direct debit charge. On that day I paid in what I could, so I was now overdrawn by £47.
On the next available working day which was the 1st of October I paid in enough money to get me back in the safe zone.
I've checked my account and they've charged me :
£65 :(
Overdraft excess fee : £30
Unpaid direct debit : £35

Unfortunately this scenario has happened quite a few times this year. I've taken it on the chin because it's my own fault. But now I've started a new job and I desperately need that money they've taken from me. Do you think they may retract those charges if I explain my situation? With this new job I can finally get out of this insane snowball effect I've been stuck in for many months, but I need that money to get my car sorted for this new job :(

I just want to find out if anyone has any success politely explaining their circumstances and have managed to reclaim those penalty charges? And what's the best way to do so.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

  • If this has happened on a regular basis then I'm afraid that your chances of getting anything other than the last set of charges are nil.
It is not the bank's fault that you have exceeded your overdraft limit. Have you tried to get it extended?

You may well put in a claim to recover these charges but the bank won't pay out until the result of the OFT case sometime next year.

If your credit history has not been smashed to bits I would suggest that you ask for a loan to pay off your overdraft and the cost of sorting out the car.
