Staying in Looe - ideas please?

Hi ,
We are staying in Looe for the second time this year next week.
Last time we went to Polperro, Polruan and Looe itself.
Just wondering what people's opinions of Seaton, Fowey or St.Austell are or any other destination within an hour from Looe.
We enjoy hiking and picturesque scenery though not keen on hoards of crowds.
If anybody could advise us that would be great.
Thanks
Woody

Never been to Seaton. Fowey is pretty. St Austell isn't exactly a major tourist destination in it self (local nickname St Aweful although has a very good brewery tour); just to the south is Charlestown.
An hour range gives you a huge swathe of mid cornwall to visit. Google maps says even down to Truro and up to the Camel Estuary is possible.
Have you looked at hiking on Bodmin Moor? What about down towards Mevagissey/Gorran Haven, more pretty coastline that way.0 -
Cawsand and Kingsland, 15 minutes driving time, Proper serious Cornwall Sea village, you wont want to leave, whats to do ?
Nothing, thats the point, Nothing and you will enjoy it, lunch in the locals is good as well, Hiking trail straight from town to fantastic views.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
There's not much at Seaton but it is pretty if you want to walk. St Austell is quite literally the pit of Cornwall so I wouldn't include that.
If you haven't been to the Helford Passage - it's a tad over your hour but well worth it, some of the most beautiful scenery in Cornwall. Lots of nice tucked away pubs.
I live in North Cornwall and can't recommend it enough, especially out of season. Take a day and do the north coast - start with a stunning breakfast at Boscastle Farm shop and after the breathtaking views make your way down the coast taking in the various (and some now famous) coves and villages. The Camel Trail, although busy in summer should be free of crowds and although not a challenging hike it's absolutely stunning along the estuary. You can hire a cycle and have lunch in Padstow.
Park the car and hike from Davidstow up Brown Willy (the highest point on Bodmin Moor) where you can walk the calories off. Finishing with a pretty drive over the Moor to Altarnun. Hop on the A30 and you can take the main route back to Looe or cross over the Moor at Colliford Lake and pop out on the A38 close to home.
Alternatively, you can do my dog walk https://www.visitcornwall.com/about-cornwall/blogging-cornwall/walk-back-time0 -

We went last year for the music festival.
We also enjoyed the monkey sanctuary - we walked there and back from Looe.
Also recommend the branch railway Looe to Liskeard - very scenic route. We changed trains at Liskeard and went into Plymouth, but if I were to go back I wouldn't bother with Plymouth. Would be happy to get train to liskeard and perhaps do a walk back part way and get back on at one of the intermediate stations.
Would also not miss stocking up on Cornish Orchards cider at the farm shop at Duloe (though the Gold is always cheaper in Waitrose - bit of MSE there for you)

We have family in Cornwall so do spend quite a bit of time there and I was going to say the Monkey Sanctuary is good- great cafe there too.
And echo about the railway between Looe and Liskeard.
We also like Port Isaac (where Doc Martin is filmed) and Freathy0
