Adding named driver who is affected?

Hello, can anyone help with this query? Martin suggests adding a driver to potentially bring down the cost of insurance. If i add my step dad (as he has a long history of driving with no claims) and i have an accident, would his no claims bonus (and in fact any of his credentials) be affected? Thanks

No, your accident wouldn't affect him in any way. Next time he took out insurance he'd be asked if he's had any accidents or made any claims in the last 5 years. The answer to both questions would be "no" - it would be you who'd had the accident, and you who made the claim.

The only way it could affect him would be if he had an accident while driving your car - in which case he'd have to declare the accident in future. It still wouldn't affect the NCD on his main car as NCD is specific to the policy rather than to the driver. And if doesn't actually drive your car it's not going to happen anyway.

The only way it might have any impact on him at all if that his insurer might ask if he's a named driver on another car, and he'd have to say yes. But that's unlikely to affect his premium - it may even bring it down slightly.
