I had an issue with FD because they wanted to know my salary but I couldnt answer as I didnt have that information on my person at the time.

RBS, Natwest and Nationwide were easy to open, I say were as it was over 10 years ago they were opened.

On a similar note I applied for a Marks and Spencer current, with the intention of using my donor account to switch, to get the £125 voucher and access to their 5% regular saver account. I had an e-mail from them last week asking me to contact them, on a freephone number. I did this and answered all their questions and they seemed happy with my answers. I am still waiting for M & S to get back to me though to let me know whether I can have their current account or not

I think all banks ask for your salary - partly as it's a credit check for a current account?

Usually if you already have an account with an organisation e.g. a saving's account it's much quicker to open a current account than with one you don't already have an account with.

That stands to reason - they've (probably) already identified you so most of the KYC checks and such are already done.

I opened a barclays student account instantly when i first came to the UK.

4 years later, i was declined by Santander for their 123 current account because of no credit history.

I just want to get some interest....
