I’ve made a few subtle references in the past – phrase above is often used in the Walt Disney World TV adverts that get shown from time to time.

Well Mrs Bliss first went to Disney World Florida in 2001 and was totally hooked. Intending to go back once the blisslings are a little older – perhaps summer of 2013 once we’re mortgage free.:j

I’ve a little spreadsheet that breaks the mortgage down into manageable 5% chunks. Each 5% of the original capital is £4,750. I’ve been keeping tabs on when we’ve paid 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% etc of the capital – just for a little milestone to cross off.

However at 20% of the mortgage paid off, I designed, printed and presented a £1,000 (labelled one of five) gift voucher to be redeemed against a Walt Disney World Florida holiday, along with a few Florida holiday brochures as a little Christmas present in 2006. Had her fooled for a short while with it being combined with the holiday brochures.

Tomorrow with the payment and overpayments, we will break through the £57,000 mark, meaning we’ve paid 40% of our mortgage and the next £1,000 voucher is needed. Not sure if Mrs Bliss will remember or even kept the original “voucher”, but I’ve just printed off another copy, placing in an envelope and leaving it downstairs so she will find it in the morning.

Now I got the answer for making unlimited numbers of OPs every month. I wrote to ING direct and asked the sort code of my mortgage account. Strangely, it was never mentioned in all previous correspondences as well as in the mortgage deal. Now I have all details to make online payments:rotfl:
as many time as I like.

    FB,

That's our plan to take the kids in 2013. They will be 5, 8 and 12 so hopefully the right age range to enjoy it. What a great idea about the vouchers. I have a little way to go until I can start thinking about doing a similar thing but thanks for the idea and well done on your progress - very impressive!

We're planning on 2013 too! Ours will be 11 and 9. Wouldn't it be funny if we all turn up at the same hotel?!

Mrs Bliss got up before me this morning: "What's that envelope on the fire surround?" - "Is it divorce papers?" :rotfl:

Phew, a few moments later, a smile arrived as envelope was opened.

MSE Florida holiday in 2013 - certainly very MSE - bulk purchase discounts anyone? :D At the very least, we could get ideas from each other...

I had the same idea when I read the replies.

If you were all planning to go roughly at the same time (Easter/Summer school holidays), then it would be cost effective to go on exactly the same dates and investigate a group booking. These preferential rates normally apply for 20+ people and would need to be booked fairly early. Additionally, careful consideration would need to be given to what would happen if one party needed to cancel their holiday and thus take the final number of travellers below that required for the group rate/s.

Probably one of those ideas that sounds good, but could be a logistical nightmare.

Good to hear that all is still running to plan and target. I concur, time is flying by; I think it does go faster when you have children (or is it very simply a reflection of age?).

I have a theory about this - I think it's all down to ratios. If you think about it, when you're 5 years old, a year is 20% of your whole life to date. When you're 50 years old, that drops to just 2% of your life to date, so therefore the years appear to be passing faster because they're a smaller proportion of your overall experience.

    Caz (apologies for thread hijacking!)

    ^^^^^^ What she said!
Re the holiday, it does have the potential to be a logistical nightmare doesn't it?!
It'll be our first time there and unless we fly anywhere in the meantime, it'll be the first time the littlies will have been on a plane. (I've only flown 6 times!)

Can i ask a personal question..what does most OH think about paying the mortgage early? I only came accross the idea from reading through this thread and started to think very seriously about it. However whenever i mention it to my OH it seems to bore her :) she is supportive and thinks the idea of being mortgage free before we are 30 is a great idea but i just can't seem to motivate her in the same way.

I like your voucher ideas FB, thats a great idea and maybe something i could copy from you to get the missus motivated.
