Electric and gas. In the summer of 2008, I realised that I could enter my meter readings into Scottish Power web site monthly. I've been doing that since then, but have been forgetting to post energy updates here, so here's a round up for November and December 2008 which I didn't report, and January 2009, which I've just entered.
Figures are meter units then cost from Scottish Power. I’ve also done a combined total so an overall comparison can be made.
Electric:- August - 265 / 30.28
- September - 273 / 30.74
- October - 312 / 34.38
- November - 326 / 35.36
- December - 332 / 36.12
- January - 331 / 36.04
- August - 9 / 14.43
- September - 12 / 17.06
- October - 30 / 34.18
- November - 47 / 50.32
- December - 61 / 64.10
- January - 65 / 68.22
- August - 274 / 44.71
- September - 285 / 47.80
- October - 342 / 68.56
- November - 373 / 85.68
- December - 393 / 100.22
- January - 396 / 104.26
Graph is taken from our meter readings from Scottish Power site. Hopefully, we've peaked in January, and the costs should start dropping slowly as the nights push out and it gets warmer - yeah right - I've seen the heavy snow weather warnings..

Rather than just ramble on for the next 12 months, I’m hoping that I can strike a chord with five lurkers (one for each quarter, plus one for good luck) and inspire them through this diary to register for these MSE forums and say “hi” on this diary, especially if through this diary you have decided to overpay or want to be mortgage free.
Financial Bliss.
Another long time MFW lurker dropping in to say Hi and also to say thanks for the interesting diary - it's very inspiring!

Hi Daisyworld,
I'm making the effort to reply, rather than just press the thanks button. Do hope we can all hear a little bit more about you - I guess my diary can't be very inspirational unless you have a mortgage...

January wasn’t a particularly cheap month – December credit card. January's credit card had the holiday and new washing machine that needs paying this month, and we’re starting February by spending again.
It’s also going to get much, much worse before it gets better. I’ll hopefully break that news this week sometime…
Meanwhile, our holiday we recently booked in Norfolk is about a 6 hours 20 minutes drive. I’d been causally looking around for a reasonably cheap Sat Nav system (boys ‘n’ their toys etc), until Mrs Bliss this evening pointed me in the direction of a discounted in-car DVD player.
Argos are currently selling the Acoustic Solutions DVD-263 Twin Screen In-Car DVD Player for £64.99 (533/7565). This is being marketed as “less than half price”, ie it was previously on sale for £149.99, but a careful look at the item shows it’s previously been on sale for just £73.39.
We have this evening reserved the second last item of stock, but the good news is that we have £30 of Argos vouchers (redeemed from credit card points scheme), so that’s a twin screen DVD player effectively for £34.99. Not too bad and will keep the kids much more entertained than a Sat Nav system :rotfl:
Ha, looking forward to 6 hours of Monsters Inc., Wallace and Gromit, Flushed Away etc.

Hi, long time lurker, rarely a poster here!
We have an in car DVD - great move, particularly with the distances we have to do here - the children never mind going anywhere as they get hours of un-nagged about TV!
Really enjoy your diary and am looking forward (v.nosy of me!) to THE NEWS - very intriging.
Good luck with your continued MFW journey.

Hi FB
I too am a long time lurker but your diary has inspired me to overpay on my mortgage. We were overpaying by rounding up to the next 100 - so about £60 per month but from this month making that +160. Not long to go so doesn't make that much of a reduction but should all help. Currently need to re mortgage and wavering about which one.
Thanks for the detailed diary FB0 -
