Good news. The July mortgage payment cleared yesterday. As you may have read in the 2012 MFW challenge thread, I've decided to put £2,250 at the mortgage this month.

£887.41 is my regular payment and the remainder (£1,362.59) is an ovrepayment of which £12.59 goes to the mortgage account to round up to a nice tidy £900 and the remainder goes into savings.

This is the very maximum of what I can afford - the reason I can even do this in the first place is through credit card stoozing where I'm spending on the credit card and paying off just over the minimum balance, thus freeing up the cash for other purposes, which is to stash the cash into savings at a better rate than the mortgage.

So, drum roll please. Here's the stats.

Mortgage balance as of 3rd July: £17,125.85

    Ring fenced mortgage savings: £10,350.00

    Effective mortgage: £6,775.85

Aiming to repeat again with the same values next month, but this starts to leave me very short of quickly available cash.

No biggie at present, as I can draw down from the mortgage overpayments plus tap into the £10,350 - it only becomes a problem when I decide to throw the money at the mortgage as it's going to leave me very short of money for a month or two.

Copy of post from referral board:
If you're interested in online data file backups, you may want to take a look at SpiderOak.

If anyone is interested, my refer-a-friend link for SpiderOak is:

    https://spideroak.com/download/refer...c20a38179c4e68

Their standard free offering is 2Gb of storage, but if you sign up using the above link it gives you and I an extra 1Gb storage.

Additionally, if you use the above link, plus enter the promotion code 'hurricanesafe' without the quotes, your standard free account will be upgraded from 2Gb to 5Gb and you will still get the 1Gb refer-a-friend freebie, giving 6Gb of instant online storage!

Note: The promotion code worked as of 29th October 2011. May get withdrawn at some point.

    Hi,
I posted this some time ago regarding SpiderOak online backup.

With it being 4th July this week and SpiderOak being an American company, they're running a 4Gb extra free promotion:

    https://spideroak.com/blog/20120702154408-announcement-get-4-additional-gigs-all-week

You should theoretically be able to sign up with an initial 2Gb account using my referral link in my initial post - this will give you an extra Gb and then get an extra 4Gb via the blog link above.

Hurry - you'll probably need to apply by Sunday. I requested a further free 4Gb last night and was successful.

Been a while. Hopefully a full update this evening.

@ Sunnyday - your PM box is full.

I know this because? I've just used your referral link in the referral board to order a giff gaff SIM. Thought I'd give you a heads up.

Used you as I've seen you posting in the MFW section and your name was on the last page.

Apologies for not using anyone else - at least I'm keeping the funds within MSE instead of using any link from the internet at large...

Ok. What’s been going on in my life?

Bike. Still plugging away at the cycling despite some appalling (biblical) weather at times. Have just broke the 1,000 commuting miles and will very easily exceed the 1,212 miles I set myself as a commuting objective.

Also seriously considering a new bike - isn't going down particularly well with Mrs Bliss - just need her to come around to my way of thinking.

Trip away. Have been keeping an eye on train tickets and purchased some last night. Plan is to break the news to Mrs Bliss that we’re mortgage free during this trip, but I think she suspects we’re close anyway. Still, nice gesture!

Credit cards. Not sure it’s the right thing to ”boast” about, but we broke through the £10,000 of credit card debt yesterday. For any casual reader, it’s 0% debt and putting minimal payments towards the credit cards affords much greater mortgage overpayments.

Florida. Well, the good news is that the flights and accommodation are booked. Flights booked just less than two weeks ago and for the accommodation, we have booked a villa, which I booked last week. Total party size is seven including myself, Mrs Bliss, the two blisslings, my brother and my parents. Still massive amounts of things to plan – our kids don’t even have passports yet! But this is a 2013 holiday, so no stress yet.

Giff Gaff. Ordered a SIM today for Giff Gaff and will be porting my number over shortly once I’ve spent my last pound or so. Mrs Bliss yet to order a SIM, but she can use my referral link.

Smartphone. Still interested in purchasing one of those – get myself into the 21st century and all and popped into a local Vodafone store the other day to view a Huawei Ascend G300 in person / ask a few questions etc and Vodafone wanted £20 to unlock it. Have read on the internet that some stores are unlocking for free, so soaked up some information and then walked away.

Further credit. Not 100% sure if I’m going to fill our current (Nationwide) credit card before I can afford to clear the mortgage outright. Pondering over a further line of credit by way of another 0% credit card for 12+ months. Haven’t discussed it with Mrs Bliss who is quite concerned at the debt we’re racking up. Ooooh – having literally just checked the credit card page, there’s now a 0% deal for 18 months with RBS / NatWest. Didn't spot this previously, although I've not been looking, May look into this. :D

    Thanks,

    Well done!
I'm impressed with your determination to bike whatever the weather. How far is your commute?
I keep meaning to get my bike out and to use it more but I think commuting would take too long.

    Hi Jellie,
Just a tad under 7 miles each way. Have a look at link below. Am just about to update with the totals for this morning:

    Summary:

Just now, I've done 1,256.7 miles of which over 1,000 are commuting miles!

Some other scary stats in there such as the fact that I managed to get up to 36.3mph (albeit briefly - down hill) the other day
