According to the BBC the base rate announcement was indeed delayed due to the election - can't find the link again though.

It'll be interesting to know what will happen with int rates over the next while. Actually who know what'll happen with the economy in general in light of the election results.

I have another 2 yrs fixed @ 5.78% to go! :wall: Why, oh why, did I not choose the tracker? :(

Hi FB - wish I had your numerical acumen with the spreadsheets!

Just been looking at your last 100 steps table - I think I'm on the same Nationwide product as you, but although I'm doing quite well, wouldn't know where to begin to try and quantify what's left in this level of detail (mainly 'cos of the interest I clock up on a daily basis, whilst continuing to reduce on a monthly basis)...

    Anyway, well done!

    Hi QB,
Guess you've spotted I like my spreadsheets / charts. I like to see the information without thumbing through pages and pages of data.

The last 100 steps is quite a simple chart. It takes the MFiT-T2 challenge start balance of £48,383.00 and this is divided by 100 so that each step is £483.33 Put the balance in at the snapshot date and it works out which step to cross off to.

As for the percentages, that's the £95,000 mortgage broken down into percentages, each 5% block being £4,750. Just hit 55% this month despite having the current mortgage for over 6 years.

And I want to pay off the remaining 45% in 30 months :eek::eek:

Still got some way to go and haven't given up yet.

Hello FB - seems to me like you're doing incredibly well, especially given you have blisslets to provide for!

And there I was thinking that your spreadsheet would include all the interest payments as well up until the end of the fixed term anyway (doubtless you'll no doubt call my bluff on that one now :rotfl:). But if it's just a straightforward division, I might even manage one myself.

And speaking of interest, as I'm up so late, I might drop by the Nationwide web-site to see how much I'm paying a day these days... Little things, as they say, but it all keeps me on track!

    QB,
If you can, check before midnight and again afterwards. The interest gets applied at midnight and you'll instantly see what you're being charged.

Alternatively, multiply my outstanding balance by your mortgage rate and divide by 365 to get a rough indication.

Crumbs. On page 5 of the MFW section. Been having 'issues' with the broadband at home, which resulted in a hit 'n' miss connection and time outs / this page can not be displayed.

The final straw was last night and was on the brink of phoning Talk Talk to complain, but managed to get their outages page to load and spotted that there was none for our exchange.

Finally spotted that there's another person with range of the wireless ariel on our PC that has the same router and I think there was contention / confusion between our PC and the two routers.

Logged in to our router last night and changed the channel frequency and this appears to have done the trick.

Should get back to a bit more of a regular diary now.

    Car insurance.
Our car insurance is due for renewal from 30th May. We got a letter from our current insure (First Direct) almost a month ago advising of the renewal quote of £275.31.

The bad news - Quick check of accounts (Microsoft Money) shows we paid £234.93 in 2009, so it's gone up by 17%:eek::eek:

The good news - Normally I'm well in hand with quotes and can always knock a renewal quote down a bit. The 2009 renewal was from Esure and it jumped so much from the 2008 price that I tried the "beat current renewal by 10% offer" by First Direct and went with them in 2009.

But, I can't get anywhere close to £275.31 via comparison sites. It appears that many have beat our renewal quote, but if you factor in legal protection, protected no claims etc so that you're comparing like with like, then all of the quotes are above £300.

Good I guess as I'm already with the cheapest insurer I can get.

I haven't renewed just yet - it doesn't auto-renew and I need to telephone to confirm the renewal.

Any last minute tips to try to better the price - I've tried the comparison sites as per the MSE car insurance article, Direct Line and Aviva plus a few other brokers such as Asda and Tesco. I've also factored in cash back, but none come close :(

    Hi again,

It must be that time of year - I've renewed with E-sure this morning. My renewal quote was for £340, which, given I've six years no claims seemed high. However, when I went through the comparison sites, the cheapest I could find was £560! Asda was an eye watering £800+!!

So, no tips I'm afraid, other than reassurance that all things considered, E-sure seems to be a lot cheaper than the competition!

My insurance is with Direct line atm and my renewal is due at any time, its always much higher.

I go online to the site and go through the whole process again and usually get a much lower figure and buy that option and cancel the renewal in that order.

Even though you are already a customer doing it this way seems to give you a discount. I`m not sure if others are the same or not but this has worked for me twice now.
