Back Pay Limitations - Severe Disability Premium

Just a quick question, hopefully it has a clear answer that someone knows.

Last week I had a better off calculation done for me, which highlighted I should be in receipt of a severe disability premium of £62.40 on top of my WRAG ESA, since my PIP was awarded in January 2015. I wasn't aware of this before last week.

So this morning I rang DWP and applied after confirming my eligibility. They also said it could be backdated, but didn't say for how long.

My question then; is there some limitation on back pay (perhaps 12 months?) or will I get the 140~ weeks worth of money?

Thanks

Yes, it should be backdated to your PIP award as long as you met all the other criteria at that time. Living alone (or counted as living alone), no one receiving Care's Allowance for you and receiving daily living PIP and are entitled to income based ESA.

Since you have had a calculation done and they have accepted that you are/were entitled to the SDP then everything should be fine.

And if you changed address since January 2015, it will only be backdated to the date you moved into your current address.

If you want it for the time you were in previous addresses, you should phone back ESA and ask for other forms to be done...1 form per address, to Jan 2015.

And were you on DLA Care middle or high before PIP ?

I have been on enhanced mobility for dla for 6 years. I am 65 and a few months aho was invited to apply for pip. I have now been awarded both enhanced mobility and enhanced care. I have a mobility vehicle but as i have never had the care component before would this award be backdated to the date i applied for pip?

    Unfortunately the answer is 'no'.

This is because you are transferring from DLA to PIP. Your DLA payments will continue for about 4 weeks and then your new PIP payments will begin.

Are you receiving any other benefits?
  • Pension credits and housing benefit. Thank you
  • I seem to remember that somewhere in this process i found out that there is no transfer to pip. That this is a new claim. I probably got it wrong. Interested in you comments though. Thatnks again

Not sure what you mean by that as your first post says you were originally claiming DLA and then you were invited to apply for PIP. This means that you were transfered over so there's no back pay as has been stated.

Qyra, Wait for your PIP award letter, if you think the date of PIP should be earlier, phone PIP and ask.

You should make sure Pension Credit is made aware that you have PIP.

    Do you live alone?
Is anyone paid Carer's Allowance to care for you

Depending on your answers you could qualify for Severe Disability Premium on your Pension Credit £62.45 a week. Which will be backdated to the date of the PIP award.
