Forgot to pay car tax....

Guys, I've been a complete prat and not kept track of car tax.

I was sorting some stuff out at home this weekend and came across a DVLA letter under a pile of books I havne't touched for months. Opened it and it was dated 14th May 2017...it said LAST CHANCE to pay car tax! I usually pay for a year every November so I assumed I had done the same last November but looking back through bank statements it looks like I only paid 6 months! [facepalm] I don't remember getting the first reminder to be honest but I must have and forgotten about it.

Anyway, I'm calling the DVLA up tomorrow morning first thing to beg for forgiveness and pay the tax I owe plus the next years worth of tax. But I'm reading stories online about fines from ANPR cams etc. I haven't got any other letters through about this lack of car tax or that I'm being fined but just looking for advice if anyone's had a similar issue just so I know what I'm getting myself in to.

Thank you!

They dont do begging, tax it online and see what they come back with.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Good luck tomorrow, and why not set up a direct debit in case you forget again?

From seeing Police Interceptors, I think if your vehicle is found to have no tax (via ANPR), it will be labelled and towed away.
In Towns & Cities you are more likely to see a Police van doing ANPR duties, than tracking 'speeding'!

In towns and cities it's more likely to be the DVLA.

Tax it now, it'd be sod's law to be caught tomorrow.

Uninsured vehicles can be impounded, untaxed vehicles can be fined.
