Non-Standard Construction?

Is there a website where I can search to see if a property is of non-standard construction? Thanks in advance.

Probably not but what type of construction is the property your referring to?

Not that I’ve ever come across. That would require some sort of national database for the construction type of every building ever built and would then need to be updated if someone did works to correct a ‘defective’ building.

It’s something that the seller or the estate agent might know, if not it will be down to the survey.

Perhaps post a link to the property on RM?

No. But there is a spreadsheet that some surveyors may have that can help to identify based on the basic details of the house and the local authority where it was built (assuming it was built by a council). In my experience however the spreadsheet isn't much use.
It comes on the CDROM version of BRE NON-TRADITIONAL HOUSES Identifying non-traditional houses in the UK 1918-1975
    It's quite expensive.

It's easier if you post a photo here and link to google streetview people can have a guess. There are hundreds of types of non-traditional houses, but probably less than 10 types account for about 90% of the houses that were built. A lot of the other types in that book/CD-ROM were only built was prototypes.
The main types in Plymouth are:
    Wimpley no-fines / Laing easy-form
    BISF Steel Frame
    Cornish Unit
I believe it's the same in most of the country.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

Thank you for your help. I wasn't looking into a particular property, I was asking out of curiosity.

Do you mean "non-standard", or do you mean "DEFECTIVE"? They're very different. Defective construction is a very small subset of non-standard construction.

A quick look at most properties will tell you whether they are NSC, and a quick google will tell you what NSC methods are defective.

Are you actually looking at a particular area/type of property where this is an unusually high risk, or just worrying over what's really fairly minor in the grand scheme of things?
