myparkingcharge

Hi all,

Thanks for your 'Newbies' thread - very informative and something that I wish I had read straight away! I get the feeling that the general rule of thumb is to not pay these charges but I'm panicking a little so would appreciate any weighing in on my situation!

I recently moved into accommodation with private parking. I left my car in my assigned space but when I came back from a week away I had 7 notices attached to my screen. I've since appealed and have been rejected - my permit was not properly displayed, though they took pictures of the permit with the obstruction. The permit does state from which date I was allowed to park but I guess 'technically' I'm wrong as it wasn't in full and complete view.

In the rejection they say that they will reduce my charge to £20 (£140 total) if paid before the 21/10. Should I just continue to ignore?

Many thanks!

What does your lease/AST say about parking? I doubt there is anything in it about paying scammers a fee, even assuming it mentions permits at all.

This will have primacy of contract so needs to be your starting point, but I suspect you are now at the ignore stage unless you get real court papers.

Meanwhile, have a look at what judges think about this scam.
