  • T/A I have had parsnip and apple but not carrot and orange sound intriguing. I am a soup addict and love to try different ones.Today I have a spicy celery one to have ,but am also going to make some leek and potato for DGD Henry who also loves soup.

Had a great day yesterday I went to The Big Knit at Rochester Cathedral and along with about 130+ other ladies had a great time knitting and nattering .We were all making 6" blanket squares for blankets to be sold to raise money for the charity Making Miracles which is a small local charity which helps mums who have problems when they lose their babies through still birth or whatever other reasons.

Its a grand little charity and by the time I came home (after of course having a shufti around the crypt where the new restoration work is coming along, really beautiful down there) I had made new friends and had a good natter .My friend Ruth is a trustee on the charity, and I now have apparently volunteered to help run the stall one morning a month at the local hospital :) plus just as I was going to leave after lunch she collared me as there was a spare seat going at the Quiz night last night.

I had an unexpected nice evening out again and today I am at last indoors until at least 6.00 pm when I am off out again to my DDs for dinner :):) That's three quiz nights I have been to this week :):):) We came second last night which we were all pleased with as it was quite a difficult one

Met another lady there, and have promised to help sew up some of the 250 plus squares that were knitted yesterday at the Big Knit.So no peace for the wicked eh :) I don't mind as I like to keep busy
I think at the moment I actually have a free day tomorrow which will make a change as this weeks been a bit hectic

Hope you are all OK and in the north battening down the hatches for the wind thats due next week. Here in Kent we seem to be having a mini heat wave which is a bit disconcerting in October, but welcome all the same as I have yet not had to put the heating on at all.
Right time for some coffee and sort out some lunch I think All my menu's are done for the week.
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing
<<hugs> to the sad, down or distressed

    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Morning

Gorgeous weather here today which is good news as I have a big wash to get dry. Watching my favourite Sunday Brunch and trying to chill

All was going very well with my weekend visitors ...Sat out in the sun yesterday for a while which I had assumed I wouldnt do again this year. We had a great indian meal last night which came home with me as well so its a lamb tandori and nan for my dinner

So all was going well but then this morning I am informed of a bed wetting incident :mad: I will spare you the details but lets just say I now need another mattress  Bedding is on a 95 wash now but any signs and that will be binned too.

So yes Holly I understand the problem of unexpected expense
£350 for the car tomorrow and goodness knows how much to replace everything in the spare. Has to be done quick though as its a well used spare room for my friends (excluding this weekends now of course)

Probably sit out again later and enjoy some book and wine time. Dinner will be left overs then an early night after strictly. Reckon Simon will be outed which is a shame as I think they tried to make him the class clown. I dont read any spoilers on SCD so its just my opinion.

Have a good day all and enjoy the lovely sunshine x

Well, we had HM tomato soup for dins last night, as I got a gazillion cherry toms for £1 on the market on Thursday. :D
I used an extra potato and a tad less water than usual, and it came out beautifully thick. There was a loaf fresh out of the BM as well, so we had fresh still-warm bread with it.
Didn't do dessert; Milly & Mia's folks brought some "Loukoumi Bites" back from Cyprus for us (Turkish Delight type of confectionery) so we had some of those instead. :o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Hello, I should be working but I think my gloom is mostly from tiredness so I amn't. I'm not doing the washing either because although it is lovely and mild, it does feel quite damp.

I've done my community service by going out and picking up the rubbish that people leave in the road and tried to convince DM that she will not get blown away tomorrow, apparently someone in another apartment has told her that the wind will be well over 100mph tomorrow. I think that could be an exaggeration as she us inland, even though quite high up. She keeps asking me if I'm going on holiday, well I haven't been able to afford a holiday for 20 years, so why I'd suddenly do that now us a mystery. If I really wanted to, I imagine that I could scrape up some money. I don't really mind, I like time off but not necessarily going away. The last few holidays I can remember involved entertaining a small child all morning while my husband enjoyed a nice lie in. So a bit like being at home with fewer toys and books, no park with swings in a hotter place than home.

I've got a chicken to roast tonight, need to get my arris in gear and concoct some stuffing. I'll do roasties, carrots and buttonhole kale, this new from the OH going hunter-gathering yesterday. It is pretty, purple and green and we had some last night, tasted good. I might make some bread sauce too. I like bread sauce because of the spiciness, I think that goes well with chicken.

I came down thus morning and smelt spoiled citrus fruit but the only citrus I've got is lemons and they seem fine so if anyone knows what else smells like this, please tell me.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Judi I have 2 duvets on my king size bed. A proper king size summer duvet which is 4.5 tog and a winter weight single duvet (10.5 tog) along the bottom like a runner. This combination sees me through all the seasons. If it's cold when I get into bed the combination means that I'm warm enough and if I get too hot in the night I just throw the extra duvet off. On the rare occasion that I have a bed invader (the house troll who is always very warm) I just move the single duvet to cover me only and still throw it on the floor if I get too warm.

Good idea, i may adopt your idea in the winter when Grump is working away. As it stands now, new duvet bought, 3 tog on the bed and the 9 tog is stored away under the bed. The inlaws want our week old 10.5 tog quilt. They cant bear anything to be thrown away...

Two trips to the tip have been made, all in the name of 'progress'. New flooring steam cleaned, vacuumed throughout. I need to bleach clean the side of the house but i'm running out of energy. Another coffee it is then.

The weather i have to say, is beautiful. Hope it lasts as we are hoping to spend a bit of time in the caravan from the 23rd. It will be good to get away.

Morning all, I was up early today to go and have the dressing on my leg changed before the department gets busy. I don't have to go back until Thursday now as we seem to have settled on a dressing combination that is both working and doesn't have to be changed every two days.

Holly we did enjoy our walk thank you. The HT had a face on for the first half an hour but then the fresh air and being outside worked their magic. He was hungry but happy by the time we came home. Regarding all your replacements - it's often said that things come in threes so hopefully that will be your three of broken things......

Csarina I hope you enjoy the day

dp1 does your cat open the cupboard to throw the cat food tins on the floor? Ours can't open cupboards but the devious one can open drawers. They're no longer allowed upstairs as she opens the drawers under the beds, then the two of them jump in. Their weight and the momentum mean that the drawer closes behind them. If we're out it could be a while before anyone rescues them so no more upstairs....

Yes..biggest cat who is called Biscuit and is a big ginger boy can open cupboards! When we first got him, he used to climb in the food cupboards and eat bicuits, bread.... anything in a packet or a box. I put child locks on all the kitchen cupboards ( never needed to when I had little children). He sometimes manages to get the child locks open so anything he could chew is now kept in plastic boxes. The cupboard under the sink where the cat food is kept ( tins....he chewed through the pouches) has a little key...he can turn it! Also have a child lock on the door of our downstairs loo so I can keep my kitchen bin in there! And yes he can open the two bottom drawers in the kitchen too and often scatters the contents all over the floor. And all the doors in the house...he just jumps and swings on the
    handle!
Reading back...yes...we've had quite a few cats but he's by far the strangest/cleverest one

    I do feed him!!
  • AOD I had holidays like that only I was in England so no hot weather and I have 4 children.
    Chin up, Titus out.

We have two - they have names but are also known as dopey and devious. It's devious that can open things - dopey just goes along for the ride. We still use pouches but they're kept somewhere the cats can't get to. We had self-feeding cats on a few occasions until the food was relocated. Biscuit sounds like he could teach our devious one a fair bit. He must make life very.....interesting :rotfl:

Afternoon everyone - a late one from me.

I slept long and deep apart from my now usual 3.30 waking up moment. All of a sudden my bluetooth speaker announced that it's battery was low, never done that before as it's permanently plugged in. At that time in the morning I just plugged it in somewhere else and went back to sleep.

This morning I listened to the podcast of Saturday Live which has Mary Berry and Harry Judd on amongst others. I found it interesting and funny, especially now that Richard Coles is back.

I've been finishing off another book so I can give it to my 'client' tomorrow when I take her down to the Beatson Clinic. We've got a yellow weather warning about high winds though it's been blowing a hoolie all night here.

My lunch was more of the venison casserole along with some savoy cabbage followed by a handful of sour jelly beans! That's more than ample.

My lovely nephews and SIL have been WhatsApping me today. The oldest nephew (now) is moving to Sydney from Brisbane for a new job with an international law firm there which headhunted him. He's now with his younger brother who has a farm in Chatsworth, they're having a farewell pi*s up. SIL is still in Melbourne trying to sell her late father's house there, two sales have now fallen through as the banks are tightening up on lending too.

I'm not going to the harvest festival as I'm very cosy in front of the stove which has a great fire going. I've reconnected my Sonos speakers, they've been off for ages (lazy me) and I missed them. Just got Robert Plant's new album blasting out nicely. And got them linked to the Echo though I'm yet to learn how to get them to play nicely together!

No washing being done here, it'll keep until Wednesday before I go back to DMs, I can hang it in the spare bedroom with the dehumidifier on. No teaching this week as it's 'reading week' - uni speak for half term I think. :rotfl:

Happy rest of Sunday to all.
