O/S Daily Sunday 15th October 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, dry and a bit misty which looks like it'll burn off to be another decent day - quite warm here already.

DH and I up enjoying first cuppas of the day, dinner last night was HM quiche, jacket potato (for the menfolk) with beans/cheese, cous cous stuffed roasted peppers and baked flat mushrooms with cheese - all eaten and enjoyed - the only thing I bought extra was the pastry - as my pastry skills are not great, have a little of the pastry left so will use it to make some jam tarts. Lunch today will be roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy, I may pick up a cauli if I can find one cheap enough, the one's at the SM's on Friday weren't good enough for the price - so wouldn't buy one. I need to get the pack ups etc done whilst lunch is cooking.

We didn't get to DH's grandad's yesterday as DH had been out in the morning and came home saying his nose had just been running like a tap and he still has a cough, and still isn't really right - everyone else that's had this is the same, some people are now on the 3rd to 4th week with it, so guess it's just time. DH on the whole feels ok in himself so hopefully by the end of the week he'll be much better.

We'll be visiting the outlaws and my parents this morning as we didn't see them last weekend as DH was poorly, then chilled day at home.

Yesterday I got the ironing done, window cleaner came, now we can see how dirty the windows are on the inside!

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone

Thank you for starting us off nmlc.

I had trouble getting onto the site this morning, I was getting an error message for ages but is seems ok now though,

Hugs to AOD and silveroldie, and anyone else that is struggling and finding life difficult at the moment.
CRANKY I hope that you and the HT enjoyed your walk yesterday.
Hester, not long now, the next few days will fly past. Don’t run yourself into the ground though.
    Csarina, enjoy the wedding.

Well I took the TV that I couldn’t switch on to a local repair shop yesterday and he confirmed that it is beyond economical repair, so that is on top of the washing machine and fridge/freezer all over the last six weeks. My emergency savings have taken a serious hit and I’m really going to have to do some belt tightening to replenish the everyday savings account.

I intend to start by eating out of the freezer and cupboards, apart from fresh fruit/veg/bread and dairy until at least the end of February. I am ashamed to admit that there is probably enough food to last that long, possibly even longer if I am careful and give proper thought to how I use what I have got. Then I can move the money I would have spent on food into my emergency savings account.

I have an insurance policy coming up for renewal that I no longer need, and phoned VM on Saturday and removed the phone anytime from my package and the voice mail and managed to reduce that by £10 a month. I’ll go through everything else next week although apart from food I had my expenditure pretty much under control so I don’t think that there will be many more savings to be made.

Right, time for breakfast and more tea.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. What's been up with the MSE site this morning then? Has everyone else had problems getting in or is it just me!

A dry and mild day is in store so the moss killer is getting put down on the drive today. If it gets rained on I shall cry! I also want to get the bedding washed when Mr TA vacates the bed and get that on the line. There will be even more tears if that gets rained on too!

I have printed a recipe off for Carrot & Orange soup so want to try and replicate the gorgeous soup we had on our day out Thursday. That's also on the agenda for today. LAMEWOLF I shall send you a link, as requested, if it turns out as nice! I love me soups and am always keen to try out a new recipe idea.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the sad, lonely or poorly who want them. Take care all and enjoy your Sunday if you can xx

    Morning All

I had problems getting on the site this morning too.

Very windy here, dry at the moment but the skies are very threatening, any washing can hang on the pulley. The bedding half dried outside yesterday.

I had a mishap with a kerbstone and a tyre yesterday, had to get the local tyre place to come out and change the wheel for me - when did everything become so heavy! Anyway, new tyre cost me £100 but at least the alloy was ok.

Took the 12 year old to have her nails done, it took ages and I was very bored but she's pleased with them. Granny treated us to lunch so all was ok in the end!

Shopping this morning then I'll make DD and bf something to eat, I'm collecting them from the airport later so it will save them cooking or getting a take away.

    Happy Sunday, take care. XX

    Morning everyone
Biggest cat woke me just after 7 by throwing all the tins of cat food out of the cupboard! I fed him, hung yesterday's towels on the line as its windy and brought my breakfast back to bed. Been browsing on my laptop and looking on Amazon for ideas for Christmas.
Just going to check my bank and then I'd better get moving, as I need to go down to sit with dad about half 9.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Must replace this duvet today. It's too hot when we are both in bed even with the fan on.

Quiet day in is planned. Grump will be playing with his new toy. I've got some cleaning to do.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Thanks for the thread nmlc hugs to all those in need.

I didn't get up early enough to hit the problems with the thread and when I did get up I blocked the loo, tmi, I know.

Spent part of yesterday trying g to track down the identity of a child who was putting himself at risk so the police could be informed.
Nothing to do with work I just believe in sticking my nose in where it isn't wanted!

Today's plans include copious amounts of tea, starting off another batch of sloe gin and some crochet.

CHS keeps giving me a list of jobs to do when I retire and then questions why I haven't done them yet!!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning (((((((((( hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Today is the big day...........there was no point getting up early, so we are just out of bed. After my shower I will put my underclothes on and my dressing gown, can do what bit of make up I wear and then dress after we have had a snack.

OH is coming, his headache was bad when he first woke, but it's settled down now. I need to read what it says on the leaflet about the travel pills, he should be ok with one dose.

Nice bright day here so I have a wash on the go and will hang it out today, another to go in after.

DD got in from work at 8 this morning so she went straight to bed, unfortunately her duvet is under a massive pile of clothes on my bedroom floor from where we emptied her old wardrobe, so she just had a blanket, I put my duvet over her once I got up, order will hopefully be restored later on today, although she has to be at work at 6 again this evening till
midnight  which means she wont be home here till 1.30 in the morning, I hope her boss lets her go in late tomorrow as this is over and above her normal working week !

OH took Little Madam to the woods yesterday and collected 3kg of chestnuts :T they look delicious, I am going to roast some and freeze them for Christmas dinner and make a pasta dish with cream, chorizo and chestnuts for tonight.

Need to get the hanging rails up in dd's wardrobe and there are some shelves to go in which wont take long, then I will help her to get everything back in the room and sorted out.

Right I need more tea !

Silveroldie how are you today ? xx

Morning all, I was up early today to go and have the dressing on my leg changed before the department gets busy. I don't have to go back until Thursday now as we seem to have settled on a dressing combination that is both working and doesn't have to be changed every two days.

Holly we did enjoy our walk thank you. The HT had a face on for the first half an hour but then the fresh air and being outside worked their magic. He was hungry but happy by the time we came home. Regarding all your replacements - it's often said that things come in threes so hopefully that will be your three of broken things......

Judi I have 2 duvets on my king size bed. A proper king size summer duvet which is 4.5 tog and a winter weight single duvet (10.5 tog) along the bottom like a runner. This combination sees me through all the seasons. If it's cold when I get into bed the combination means that I'm warm enough and if I get too hot in the night I just throw the extra duvet off. On the rare occasion that I have a bed invader (the house troll who is always very warm) I just move the single duvet to cover me only and still throw it on the floor if I get too warm.

Csarina I hope you enjoy the day

dp1 does your cat open the cupboard to throw the cat food tins on the floor? Ours can't open cupboards but the devious one can open drawers. They're no longer allowed upstairs as she opens the drawers under the beds, then the two of them jump in. Their weight and the momentum mean that the drawer closes behind them. If we're out it could be a while before anyone rescues them so no more upstairs....

Csarina forgot yesterday to say I hope you have a good day at the wedding.
Feel a bit stiff this morning, especially my back and knees. Not used to all that physical work re the chair yesterday, hopefully will never have to do it again !. I think we will replace with an "odd" one next time :).
Anyway the damp washing from yesterday has been put out again and a towel wash is now dancing in the WM. I have emptied the DW and Mr Fix It has run the hoover through downstairs. The veg is all prepped and the pork is in the oven. Dad will be over for lunch about 12.30 and we shall have the rest of his orange doughnuts later. ( And breathe :rotfl:)
Right WM finished so I'm going to put the towels out, I hope it all dries today because it is still overcast but at least there is a bit of a breeze, so fingers and toes crossed :D.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday and hugs all round.
