During that first meeting she openly discussed a wide variety of subjects with the advisor.
In addition to all her financial circumstances many of the details and facts of said discussion were deeply personal and private, the type of thing one does not openly discuss with someone they had only just met ,

    Yet ...
At the time my partner had only the very basic command of spoken English

The former suggests far more than a very basic command of the language.

    TLDR

So do you believ yor partner would have borrowed less money from a Japanese bank because she would have understood that there you must pay back what you borrowed?
Good luck proving she didn't understand. If she truly didn'y understand, she wouldn't have borrowed more money, she would not have signed anything, she would not have spent the money.

Figures mean the same thing, and I doubt she had had trouble with hose, andthey would have given her a repayment plan, which are usually fairly simple to understand.

Single premium on a series of consolidated loans is her best bet for complaint.

If you're going to allege all kinds of dodgy dealing, then proof is required, not her recollection or word. Or yours.
