Running taxi service from home

One of my neighbour's is running a taxi service from home. He has about two cars and mini bus parked in his drive. There is also another mini bus parked in the street. It is getting very difficult to get in and out of my drive. Is it legal in a residential estate to run a business. Thanks

There may be restrictive covenants that prohibit certain uses, and there could be an outright prohibition on business use. The title to the property (held by the Land Registry) should have details of any restrictions.
Your local council web-site may have information on reporting illegal change of use, although bear in mind taxi firms will bribe officials.
If the coming and going is disturbing neighbours and causing a nuisance, you could go to court.0 -
I’d very much doubt they’d be able to do this without planning permission for a partial change of use and even more doubtful that they’d get said planning permission.
First stop would be your council planning website to see if they’ve put in for planning permission. If they haven’t you should ring the local planning department where they’d be able to confirm whether or not PP is needed. If it is and you make a complaint then they will be obliged to follow the complaint through.0 -
Is his home address registered as a taxi operator's location with the local taxi licencing office?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Aren't taxis supposed to be driving on the road and not parked on the drive? It doesn't quite make sense. Can't be very succesful if they're parked up!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Let the tax office know. If it's legit they'll know about it, if not they'll chase him.0

It is legal provided he has the correct licences from the local council. And if he's complying with the parking regulations in the street, there's little you can do about that. If he's blocking you getting out of your drive, that is against the law, but unfortunately it's not illegal to stop you entering your drive if you're coming home. It's very dependent on local rules and regulations so you need to speak to the local council. You may be able to persuade them to introduce some sort of restriction on parking commercial vehicles in the area perhaps.Debt 1/1/17 - Credit Cards £17,280.23; overdrafts £3,777.24

He may be a licenced taxi driver and his vehicles may be licenced, but is his house licenced as the taxi operator's premises?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
