Household income

Options
Hi
My daughter will be applying for a student loan for 2017-2018. Does household income include her twin brother's full-time employed income?
Also, my husband and I both work full-time but also run a smallholding on a part-time basis. This is in its early days so is making a loss. We were able to claim back the tax for the losses - how does this affect household income?
Thanks

  • In order to apply for a student loan, they look over parent's/guardians income only. They don't take sibling's income to their account.

For those students whose parents are separated. they will consider the only income of those whom student spend the majority of their time.
  • For your small-holding, you'll need to declare what you would have put your tax return(s). There should be some guidance as to how to declare a loss, if this is the case for the tax year concerned. However, a loss won't be deducted from the employment income, which you will also need too declare. The loss will just be treated as 0.

I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!
  • If you both work full time on NMW then she should get full loan,if either or both of you earn more and the small holding makes any profit this year then she may get less, siblings don't count
