Help - Unidentified Download

This week the internet for both me and my wife's pcs slowed to almost a halt when browsing but when I switch my pc off my wifes went back to normal speed. On further investigation I noticed that the Ethernet light on the router was continously flashing even when I was not browsing. Only my pc has the Ethernet connection and evertime I switched my pc on the Ethernet light was flashing and the internet on our pcs slowed to a halt again. I concluded that something was downloading to my pc and taking almost all of the internet resource. So I left my pc on over night for this unidentified download to complete. The next day we were back to normal with internet speed for both of us. This is fine but what I want to know is how can I identify what this mysteries download was? It was not Windows update as that was up to date.
Regards

if it is not the downloads, then first thing that comes to mind is Kids (the ones upstairs that you think are sleeping), the second have you tried this http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_network_watcher.html MS updates gets my vote too.0

I don't think it was windows 10 because it happend after this weeks update. Also no kids or anyone else using the router.
Does anyone know a way of looking at download history, similar to the way you can look at updated history in windows update?Regards

Does win 10 have no way of checking what downloads have been made, at what date?
In 7, I just go to Control Panel -> Windows Update -> View Update History.
That shows all recent Win7 updates, with dates.
There is also Windows Explorer -> Libraries -> Downloads. This keeps a record of all downloads, until removed.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

You need software to show what has been changed like auditing, and by now think the train has already left the station.I don't think it was windows 10 because it happend after this weeks update. Also no kids or anyone else using the router.

on realtime there is bitmeter for bandwidth monitoring, and sysinternals tools a excellent including procexp, currports and tcpview. Procmon - part of the free sysinternal suite is fab too.
All you can now do is do a wildcard file search and sort by date/time, check update log and software installations ordered by installation date0 -
Why when it is slow do you not open performance monitor on the affected pcs an look at the network, and also look at the router connections, from the router if it shows them. After the event then I guess The Real Donald Trump got the CIA to use your network to look for fake news. This is forensic science now, and you have two hopes of finding the answer, the kind one is Bob and the other is NO.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Thanks guys for your suggestions but as now after the event looks like I missed the boat. I have now looked at my internet usage from stats provided by my ISP and seen that this mysterious download used 3.1GB in the early hours of Thursday morning 12 Oct. This was after the Windows 10 update KB4041676 which completed on Wednesday 11 Oct as shown in Windows Update history. Anti-virus software has not found anything and PC is running as normal so will just monitor and hope all is well.Regards
