Terminology query

Morning All!
I am hoping you can help me with a little query I have...
I have recently been sorting through my OH's older finances, looking in particular at ppi.
I remember a phone call he made to a credit card provider where he asked them to reduce the interest rate (back in 2008). They agreed ... as long as he took out "Accident & Sickness cover". I have now un-earthed the paperwork that supports this (a letter from the provider confirming the policy after having the card for many years and OH's notes on an earlier statement with the details), but I am wondering if A&S cover is ppi, or some other form of cover. In my mind it is ppi.
If I am right, I would obviously like to claim mis-selling.
All comments / thoughts are very welcome.
Thank you in advance.

  • If you had PPI it would be on every monthly statement.

I really shouldn't write things without more coffee - especially on a Saturday morning.
I will look at the statements after the addition of the A&S cover (which is what I should have done in the first place). There was definitely no ppi prior to the letter and the card had been held for around 3 years at that point.
Thank you (I'm heading off for another coffee now!)

On a different matter (that I posted in the wrong forum this morning).... was MBNA previously known as MBNA Europe? Sounds a strange question I know, but having complained and received a refund from MBNA, I have discovered other paperwork headed MBNA Europe from earlier (around 2001) with different account numbers to those quoted in the correspondence from MBNA. Just wondering if it was a separate entity (in which case I will submit a claim) or whether (despite the account details not matching) it would have been wrapped up in my MBNA claim.
Is there a way of finding out without contacting MBNA?
    Any thoughts very welcome. x

I honestly shouldn't do anything without coffee. Looking back at my question in my first post, I went through all the Statements I have for OH and the CC prior to being sent the letter saying they had added A&S cover.... and low and behold, there was already a monthly ppi charge on every Statement (in my pre-caffeinated state I didn't realise it was earlier on the listing of each Statement.

So... is it possible to have ppi AND A&S cover on the same CC?

Yes. They are two different things. If you accepted an A and S cover through them.

    Ok....
So were they allowed to 'sell' A and S in exchange for lowering the interest % on the card? (as I believe this is what happened)
What is the point if there is already ppi?
Would it have been listed separately on the Statement?

Thank you for your answers! x

Two differing insurance policies with little overlap.

PPI was only ever a short term policy designed for short periods of unemployment or sickness.

    PPI certainly didn't cover accidents.
