Btw if you like comedian Jack Whitehall and the double act with his Dad, they have a series on Netflix travelling in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam which is quite interesting, only touches the surface but includes the Bridge over the River Kwai.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

We're flying back from Bangkok tonight and visited kanchanaburi as part of the trip. We took minibuses booked through travel agents and hotels from ayutthaya and then to hua hin, the first was very good, the second quite average.
It's an option as part of a wider trip and stops backtracking through the relative chaos of Bangkok.0 -

I've seen it advertised and would like to watch it but unfortunately I find Whitehall as funny as a hole in the head.0 -

The only reason we backtracked to Bangkok was for an overnight before getting a NOK Air flight to Hanoi.
If we can get a train anywhere then rail is always our favoured option in SE Asia. It's cheap, an authentic local experience, and a good way of getting close to the people. Road travel is our least favourite mode of transport, too many reckless idiots on those roads.
If we use Bangkok as a Gateway then we'll just top-and-tail for a couple of nights on arrival and before flying back to UK.0 -

We tend to be pragmatic about options, we took train up to pak Chong and then back to ayutthaya, but saved several hours by a road transfer to kanchanaburi, even if the driving standards often leave something to be desired.0 -

How is the weather? Looks rum, according to the forecast.
Any reason why you chose to travel in the rainy season?0 -

It's fine, heavy showers and the road outside the hotel was flooded this morning but got through in a tuk tuk.
I've never had a problem with the so called taunt season in south east Asia, it's not exactly a hurricane.
Quite enjoy being soaked with warm rain actually, don't get that in the uk ever.0 -

Yes, quite different from getting wet in the UK. Though wouldn't actually choose it as a time to travel.
So just wondered why you chose that time as opposed to say, late November.0
