Canary Home Security cameras - change in service

I’m starting this thread to invite other customers of Canary to share their views.
I bought one of these home camera devices back in December 2015and it has been largely fine and good for what it has been bought for - it records and alerts to activity, shows me the activity through my app, but without the subscription service, only stores limited recordings (I think it used to be 7days? but is now 1day)
However recently Canary have changed this meaning activity recording are only the first 10 seconds unless you pay their £79 annual fee. This is wrong of them I think and practically renders my camera useless.
I would regard it as no longer fit for purpose as it does not meet the original sale description or terms. I am therefore intending to send it back to Amazon for a refund and am happy to make a stink about why as I think what Canary are doing should not be allowed.
I’m wondering if others feel the same way?

There is now a stream of bad reviews on the Amazon site regarding Canary cameras. They will see their sales tank.0

Quick update, Amazon have already responded to my refund request and confirmed they will refund, return label provided. Even though it’s over 12 months they have accepted this and agreed.1 -

Where are they based.?
I must admit I’d been thinking about installing a camera for when I’m away as I already have a nest central heating app but I definitely wouldn’t want to pay a subscription either0 -
I was thinking of one, too. Not any more. Thanks for the warning.0

Yes I'm a bit peeved too. I've got 4 cameras at home and one at work.
I coughed up for membership last night but used the code members50off6 which gave me 50% off. I might make a new thread showing that code to help others.
Yes it's wrong they removed free features to paid but the canary cameras are still one of the best ones out there and the 30 day recording feature and talk function is great.0 -

Though now at nighttime it only records ever ten seconds if you don’t subscribe which might be problematic?0 -
I have 3. All looking into the house. So we can keep our eye on the dog whilst at work.
They are not really used for security (recording a break in). So a subscription is not really required.
However, for security. £79 a year isn't that bad, it covers 3 cameras. The "movement" detection recording is sent up to the cloud at the time of recording. So if Johnny Burglar broke in, spotted the camera, destroyed it. Too late already gotcha.
The App needs an "instant" record function though. So if you spot something, you can capture it.0 -

I think the subscription is per camera, not per location. I have two camera's, and even with a 1yr 50% discount, they quoted me £65 membership fee - normally £129 a year.
That's not far off the cost of a replacement camera from another service which doesn't charge as much (eg. Y-Cam Evo - albeit probably not as good a device, but may be adequate for the comparative cost).
I'm optimistic that Canary will restore some of the Free features, in the face of the negative reviews flooding their Amazon listings.0 -
We had ours for 1 month before the new terms came in. Took it back to Currys today for a full refund. No hassle at all to receive my money back.0
