Very common for the upper trailing arm bushes to go on the Vectra C. Thats the boomerang (or banana) shaped arm which - from memory - bolts onto the rear hub and onto a mounting point underneath the car

40k seems about right. I kept my Vectra until 152k and had to replace these arms a few times! It's not a difficult job to do if your handy with the spanners. You will need the correct size Torx / star spanner - one bolt through each side of the trailing arm hold it in place. The problem is getting access to the inner bolt and it will be a nightmare to loosen because it is really tight! Lots of WD40 the day before you do the job will help.

These arms are on eBay for approx £30 per pair and they seemed to last just as long as the Vauxhall parts.

I suspect the price quoted may only be to replace ONE trailing arm - I was quoted over £350 for the pair which is why I decided to do it myself. If it's £189 for the pair, I'd be tempted to get the garage to do it.

All the best, whatever you decide to do.

Proper penetrating oil, instead of a water-displacer, would be an even bigger help.
