OP is there any reference in the payment details on the statement?

Or did you use any device (computer, tablet, phone) to check the tracking number at any time?

If you're anything like me, you put the receipt in a "safe" place. So safe, even you can't find it.

Nope, no reference in our statement, and not entered it online. Sadly I think I was unusually careless with the receipt, don't know what I was thinking.

Did you put a return address on it? Maybe there was a genuine reason it couldnt be delivered or maybe the garage had a card left for them if there was nobody available to sign for it and they just either haven’t seen the card or haven’t bothered going to collect. If that happens it will be returned to you if you provided sender details. If not it will be off to Belfast to be opened, where at least your V5 inside will have your address on so they will return it but it will obviously be delayed while all this happens.

Just had an amazing bit of news, had a very apologetic email from the dealer saying they'd been through their post and found it. We made the mistake of using a recycled Debenhams Jiffy bag so they put it to one side. So another lesson, don't use recycled packaging for this kind of thing. Thanks all for your help, fortunately it ended up not being an expensive lesson.

By the way, had just been to the PO, wouldn't say they were unhelpful but they insisted they retained no record once it was passed to RM.
  • That is good news OP.

In fairness to the PO there was another thread on this board where the Post office / royal mail wasn't able to help them because they too had lost their receipt.

Perhaps an idea would be to photo the receipt so even if it does get lost then you would have a record of the tracking number.

    Its a slim chance.
potentially the delivering office could (given you know whe the SD was due to be delivered) go back in the tracking data of the PDA and track the items to find one that matches the dealership address.
    • Assuming the data is still accessible
    • They know which PDA/user was on the duty on the day
    • They are willing to take the time to do this
    • They are willing to give you the data

I was told that this wasn’t possible when something similar happened to me. What saved my bacon was that the item wasn’t delivered first time so when the item was taken back to the office it was booked on to another system which is ordered via address. Was the able to find the tracking number via that and the subsequent delivery and signature proof of delivery.

I suspect it is possible to find the OPs tracking number but doubt RM would want the hassle.

It is possible(assuming the software is still as it was). however the RM system isnt set up for such enquirys. Its a manual job.
fine for a small office however in a larger office its not practical. Very much down to the individual manager as it would require their access level to dig through the data.

The SPS callers office system has many benefits for just such issues.
It can be cross reference by tracking no.,postcode, surname etc.
however it isnt in every unit (not really worth the investment/booking in time in smaller units)
