Roof leak

We had a bit of rain the other day. And I just happen to notice a damp patch on the garage ceiling. Above the garage is a bedroom with a dorma at one end. The wet patch coincided with the area behind the cupboard on one side of the dorma.
I just happen to have a removable panel in the back of the dorma cupboard (for storage access) , so I removed the back and there was a wet patch on the floor and a hole in the roof felt above.
My assumption, and correct me if m wrong, is that the felt is there just incase there are any leaks in the roof and water can run down on the roof side of the felt and out at the bottom.
My question is, can I patch up the hole. My guess is that the felt as ripped in the past and the hole looks to be about 6 inches wide.
There a local builder / handyman guy around the corner and I'm waiting for him to take a look, but I'm not sure if roofs are his thing.
Thanks

Your tiles shouldn't be leaking either.
You can't rely on patching a hole in what is effectively an anorak to keep you dry in the long term.
A hole in the membrane suggest it has perished. Not sure how old yours is, but they can go brittle. A lot of time you're chasing your tail as you repair one area but you start chasing around reparing others.
The tiles need sorting out.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I agree, I think need to get a roofing guy in to look at the tiles especially where the roof / dorma joins. And while he's up there he can replace the felt.
I'd have to go and look again , bit I think it's a rip rather than perished. It's 30 years old.
It's finding a reputable roofer that'll be a challenge.0
