Avoid octagon insurance

DON'T BUY OCTAGON INSURANCE.

My mini was written off (cat D) and I wasn’t at fault so I made a claim.

Octagon sold my written off car via copart, using MY personalised registration plates (rather then the actual one for the car that's on the v5c document) and allowed it to be driven on the roads. Current driver has racked up parking tickets and fines in my name. I'm currently liable for everything until I can have my chance to prove I am not the driver but am the victim of fraud. Had to waste time working with 3 separate police investigations to catch the driver on my written off car using my cherised plates.

I'm currently driving around in my new car using my personalised plate and I'll be getting pulled over everytime I pass a police car with an ANPR camera as police try to catch the actual driver whose driving around on false plates.

Women from Octagon (supervisor) absolutely useless and rude refusing to apologise, as far as she's concerned they've done nothing wrong. Vile company to deal with. All I wanted was them to say sorry and admit their mistake and to deal with it but they've basically washed their hands of it and muggins here has had to take a day off work phoning around various police stations to remedy the situation. As a freelancer, this lost day of work has resulted in loss of earnings - Octagons response was that's not their problem.

You're probably considering them as they came up cheapest on a comparison website - ignore them and look at the next one along, you won't regret paying a few extra quid.

When it was written off, did you send the V5C docs to the DVLA to notify them?

Yup, insurers had correct v5c document (amended to show correct plate ie cherised plate removed) so were aware and yet still allowed it to be put back on the road with what is effectively, false/illegal number plates and said I'm responsible for clearing up their negligence.

But did you send the correct part (S9) of the V5C to the DVLA, to show the DVLA that you were no longer the registered keeper of that vehicle?

When a vehicle is written off, the vehicle becomes the insurers property, so they can sell it if they wish - they have done nothing wrong in that respect.

Have you spoken to the DVLA since?

Although you shouldn't have to 'clear up their mess' - you have an interest to do so.
  • Yup, done all that.

    Yup, done all that.

You don't mention getting the plates put on retention.
