Android Box to TV via VGA

Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to post this query..

I have a 32LD30UB Hitachi tv but unfortunately both HDMI ports have stopped working:

I would like to continue using my CX01 android hdmi stick and have come across a youtube video suggesting an hdmi to vga converter might work in conjunction with audio cable:

However I'm concerned that the display wouldnt be full screen?? ie (black bars would appear either side)..
The android stick outputs at these resolutions: 1920x1080 or 1200x720
The TV's PC/VGA input has these as the nearest resolutions: 1920x1200 or 1280x768

Is there anyway I could tweak settings to have the android device filling the whole screen at a reasonable resolution? Failing that, any tips on fixing HDMI ports would be appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

Does your TV have different modes?
Look for an "Overscan" option or setting on the TV or the device settings, that should reduce any black bars.

with some TV's it will stretch the input so it's larger than the actual screen, it's a hold over from old TV signals which required "extra" data to be sent along with a analogue TV image, those were put to the outside edge and ignored in TV's

These days with Digital signals that's hardly used, so you have to tell the TV to shrink the input to fit the screen.

  • Thanks, I've just checked TV and cant see Overscan anywhere in the menu.
The only mode options I can see are for `Game' or `Film' but they don't seem to stretch the picture at all?

Sometimes the overscan menu options won't be there unless you're watching the VGA input.

It might be described differently from 'overscan'. It might be hidden in amongst the aspect ratio settings, and could be called for example 'pixel by pixel', 'true', 'normal' etc. VGA doesn't carry sound by the way...
