Ticket while parked in first hour free car park

Hi there, just looking for some advise one whether to pursue this or not.
I was given a ticket whilst parked in a supermarket car park that offers the first hour free. They dispense a free ticket for this first hour and I just completely forgot to the get the ticket. I had to get someone from the supermarket to help get a trolley for my baby, since it was double locked at the back of the trolleys, and amongst all this I simply forgot to get the free ticket. I stayed in the car park for less than the hour and once I remembered I forgot the ticket (about 15 mins after parking), I went outside to put one on, but was too late.
Would this be deemed an unfair ticket given there was no financial loss to the landowner? I'm happy to pay when I'm in the wrong, but I really feel that given I was parked during a free hour I feel really inclined to not pay it given my only mistake was to forget to get a free ticket dispensed.
Anyone faced a similar situation?

Wouldn't the argument be that by not displying the free ticket, they cannot determine how long you have been, so therefore potentially overstaying. I presume terms of use of the car park is to display a ticket.0

Before starting a new thread everyone is politely asked to read the newbies thread (FAQ) near the top of the forum
Go there now and familiarise yourself with the game you are involved in and follow the advice there to appeal and complain to the supermarket
