Scottish Power - increase in standing charge?

Hi, just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience. I'm on a fixed dual fuel tariff (online fixed price energy June 2018 v2). I had a smart meter fitted in august. Each day until very recently the meter has shown a combined (i.e. Dual Fuel) starting daily price of 21p. In the last week that has changed to 41p. My standing charge is approx 9p per fuel. I have spent time checking that all appliances are off in the evening. So only thing running is the fridge/freezer. I'm trying to figure out why there has been this sudden, yet consistent jump in the start of the day's cost (which from my understanding starts with the standing charge and then adds usage to it as the day progresses).
Does anyone know if SP has or can hike standing charges during the fixed term of a tariff? If that hasn't changed then I'm struggling to work out what has!
Thanks
Will

  • Further to the above, I've tapped the button that gives individual fuel costs and (given that it's near the start of the day) these are at 19p for gas and 22p for electricity. This strengthens my feelings this is a standing charge and not a usage issue (there has been no gas used since yesterday).

The simple answer is check your energy contract. IHDs have been known to show incorrect information. This will not affect the usage data that is passed back to the supplier for billing purposes.

As far as standing charges are concerned, on a fixed tariff the upper limit of the standing charge (one for each fuel) cannot be changed during the contract term. However, any discounts usually come out of the standing charge. If follows that if a consumer breaches the contract by, say, cancelling the DD mandate then the discount may be removed leading to an increase in the standing charge.

for my next SP contract (which will not happen) the new standing charge has indeed doubled to 41p per day. Someone has set it up wrong. I suggest you make sure it is just your IHD that is wrong.

Having used SP for years, 2 weeks ago, my cheapest estimate for a new tariff at end of November 17 was £1070. Dual fuel, medium usage.
Today, two weeks later, the cheapest tariff is now £135’ both using the same usage figures?
How come an increase of £65?
Plus, the standing charges are both different, and kWh are different!
Do they hike it up, the nearer your end of contract date?
£950 last year, £1135 next year?
Any views on two year fix for Extra £50 per annum, £1185?

Just looked on SP and shocked by how all the tariff's have gone up. They are all over £1000 when none were a few week's ago. Checked the pricing tariff's and some standing charges have either gone up and unit price down or vice versa. Olso they are just till 2018 when 2 weeks ago till 2019 I took advantage of going to 2019 and my tariff staying the same, i'm glad i did.

I thought to myself when the Goverment put a cap on prices for sv the energy people would only pull the good fixed tariff's or narrow the difference between them.
