landlord offered to sell house to us

    To be honest, unless I went a head with buying the small share he currently has on the property, him sub letting it without permission wouldn't be much of my concern. If I was evicted the council would have a duty to provide somewhere to stay.

    If evicted they could choose to put you up in a B&B potentially but only if you were eligible. If you have an income your Council may not have a duty to provide you with somewhere to stay - they may ask you to find another rental.

    They definitely have a duty of care to provide accommodation as I have a minor. I have spoke with them previously when the landlord was intending on selling the property earlier this year.
    When I spoke with homeless prevention I was informed with the local councils procedures when it comes to evictions and what they have in place.
