I had a look on Virgin Media last week to get a price for moving back to them after cancelling sky. Btw, I ended up staying with sky after getting 50% of to stay.
Anyway, at 9pm tonight a Virgin Media Field Sales advisor called at the house saying "we see you were looking on our website last week and want to see how we can help?" The guy was perfectly pleasant, and I explained I was staying with Sky and he wasn't pushy, but is this normal? Did I miss an option on the website to opt out of this?

Sneaky bar stewards, chances are on the website it will have very small print saying by entering your address to check for VM availability allows them to contact you for marketing purposes, TBH , during the day I would be pleasant enough with a caller at the door , but 9pm , I wouldn't be happy about that at all0

Same has happened to me this evening but I was out. Missed phone call from them at 6:51pm. There were also two cards posted through the letterbox saying a Virgin Rep had stopped by to talk to you, and another card with his contact details and job title "Broadband Consultant".
I cancelled Vivid 200 broadband a few months ago as my discounts ran out. With November price rise, monthly cost would have risen from £36.24 to £49.23.
I have been checking prices on their website recently, and as a result was phoned last week (I'd missed numerous calls from them prior to that).
Not really interested until my Sky TV deal and BT phone and free broadband deal runs out in January.
I don't like cold callers at my front door and had I been in, I would have more than likely given the bloke his marching orders.0 -
I'd also add that I was checking out Plusnet prices on their website last month and within 15 minutes of doing so, the phone rang and when I answered, the voice at the other end said "Hello, this is Plusnet... would you like any help in choosing one of our phone and broadband packages?" :eek:0

I'm kinda used to the phone call thing, especially when you get insurance quotes etc. I make sure to tick to not receive them or don't use sites that do it without an option to opt out. But calling at my door (and at 9pm) just doesn't sit right with me. I use the internet to get quotes etc. so that I don't have to deal with salesmen!!0

Just out of interest (okay I'm nosey) I just ran through a Virgin order using someone else's postcode (sorry householder) and damned if I could see anywhere where you can opt out of marketing before entering your address. Surely that's not right? There's not even any T&C's that I could see at the point I got up to.0

I checked prices late last week on virgins site as Sky where having issues connecting us and it was taking an additional two weeks for every failed connection. Monday evening someone knocked on the door at around 20:00 which we didnt answer and there was a calling card from Virgin next morning. Did wonder why they called until i saw this which reminded me i was on their site a few days before.0

I'd be quite irritated if I got a sales call after looking at a website... even more so if they sent someone to my house to badger me.
I'm quite capable of researching deals and signing up to a new provider without a salesperson holding my hand.0 -

Yeah, it annoyed me slightly at the time, and the more I've thought about it the more annoyed I've got! I had a look at the VM privacy policy accessed from their website and can't find anything about them using your information to do this, though it's typical legal jargon so not that clear!
It's the type of thing that would put me off ever going back to them! Though to be fair, when my new sky deal runs out next year I'll go wherever the discount is!!0 -
I got someone round tonight I was comparing my current sky package with new deals from virgin
On another note when I told the guy I had a much better deal from sky (£67.50 for q 2tb multi room, full package with sport and movies telephone and 40mb fibre) I was told to sign up with him then ring to cancel the next day saying I had a better price from sky they would match it..... seems a bit odd!0 -

It's possible they would match it but it's also equally possible that they won't. Virgin are under no obligation to do as the guy knocking on your front door says.
It's basically down to the sales person desperate to get the sale regardless of the outcome for you.0
