Post office accounts closing?

I am looking for advice regarding the closing of all post office accounts used for the deposit of benefits.

My friend is a pensioner and can not go further than he does at present to collect his pension.
He has a Natwest Account which his benefit will be being paid into since the post office is cancelling this. The issue is, its some distance from where he lives now.

Does anybody know if you can get monies paid from the counter at the post office. I no there is the option of a cash machine (hole in the wall) but he is very old fashioned and has only just got to using chip and pin in the post office?

Are they closing the accounts or is your friend acting on a letter from DWP about changing to a bank account.
Apprently, that letter implies it is compulsory but , in fact, it is not.

Perhaps check with his local Post Office.

Why doesn't he just apply for a post office current account https://www.postoffice.co.uk/current-accounts or instant access savings https://www.postoffice.co.uk/savings-accounts/easy-access-accounts and ask for his benefit to be paid into that?
