Multicar Insurance

Personally I've never found a multi-car policy to be cheaper than insuring our cars separately, in fact it has normally proved significantly more expensive. However, I'm sure that others experiences will vary.0

"Multicar" is a promotional tool aimed at sucking all of your insurance in to one company.
At least some insurers will mirror your existing no claims on a car insured with them if you insure a second car. It's certainly worth asking your current insurer.

I've had quotes from these multi-car places a few times over the years. Without exception they have always been more expensive than insuring each car individually.0

I saved money taking the cars from multicar to individual insurances a couple of years ago. Then saved money at last year's renewal by moving them all back to a multi car!
Neither is guaranteed to be better value!0 -
Aviva have matched the full NCD onto a new car for me a couple of times. First when I opted out of the company car scheme (they gave me the same max NCD as my wife), and then again when I bought a little mx-5 as a runaround. But on both occaisions my wife or I was an existing customer0

I'm with Hastings Direct. They do have a multicar system, but it's anyone's guess how much it saves. I'm only with them because they are reasonably cheap anyway.
But be aware that their customer services people get confused by multicar policy numbers. Every time I phone, they have to put me through to a specialist department. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Thanks for the input.
I've had quote from Aviva at about £640 to cover both cars; individually insured the cost is about £750 if I leave my current policy as it is and separately insure the second car. My current insurer, Tesco, doesn't give discount for a second car.
But, from what you've said, I'll phone around to see if insurers offering discount on a second car come out cheaper.0
