Windows 7 Update Oct 2017

Update today, so did my usual routine to check for spurious, not required on voyage updates (only monthly rollup and malicious software removal tool) and clicked GO for it. Within seconds had a black screen with "oops a failure" although it took a lot longer to say that and created a mini dump file.

Restarted and "windows has recovered from an unusual episode" here are some useless links to files that cannot be found or read (never been able to read a mini dump file) plus a button to search for a solution - still waiting for that. Anyway up and running now, anyone had trouble with October updates?

BTW, don't want to ditch W7 and install Linux thanks!!!

That statement is going to flat-line someone else's post count!

    How about Windows 10 instead?
  • Could it have something to do with the known issues

    Known issues in this update

SymptomWorkaroundAfter installing KB4041681, package users may see an error dialog that indicates that an application exception has occurred when closing some applications. This can affect applications that use mshtml.dll to load web content. The failure only occurs when a process is already shutting down and will not impact application functionality. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

I did search for known issues and the link you provided assumes that the PC fires up again after the update but I didn't get that far, an immediate BSOD (Black Screen of Death). I suppose that's one way to cure the Blue Screen of Death - change the colour.

Since the forum has not been inundated with questions it "must have been me!" I'll wait until next month - I've hidden the updates now.

An update (but on the situation not Win 7). Fired up the laptop to allow that to update (also Win 7) and, whilst it installed the malicious software removal tool OK, the other one (monthly roll-up) failed!! Updates hidden on both machines until next month's update.
