Green Deal - A mis-selling scam ??

Does anyone else have any views or challenged boiler replacement charges under Green Deal. My mother-in-law seems to have been sold a boiler replacement by a slick salesman in 2015. She paid £4000 for a new boiler which should have only cost £1500 max (it was a simple swap with now new pipework). She is also being charged £1500 interest over 10 years, total £5500. At best the new boiler would save her £80 per year as her old one was a reasonably efficient (10 yr old) boiler yet the savings figures used by the salesman quoted the most inefficient 50 yr old boiler to justify the savings. She could have easily afforded the £1500 for a new boiler but was sold/scammed into the Green Deal because it was "sold" as being free from the savings from her bills?

If it is actually Green Deal your MIL will be paying for it through her electricity bill, if she is not paying this way it's NOT Green Deal.
On Green Deal the energy saving per year must be greater than the annual repayments.

  • Yes, she is paying approx £30pm via an extra charge on her electric bill. My point is that the real savings are only £5/10 per month as her old boiler was "B" rated and the calcs used to sell her this deal do not add up. 80% of the £5500 goes to the scheme administration, most to the seller and a smaller part to the government in interest . The figures only work if "G" rated figures for the "replaced" boiler are used. Do you know if the selling of any of these packages have been successfully challenged thanks Ian
