Getting below 60 fps with 1070 gtx??

Hello all. Brought a new 1070 gtx and installed it today. According to the benchmarks I've checked, it should destroy any game on a 1080p screen. So I booted up Tomb Raider put everything on ultra and ran Tomb Raider's benchmark and I'm averaging 54 fps. Is that normal?
Any help would be great thank you.

Yes it is normal. As you're finding out synthetic benchmarks don't mean a whole lot once you get in the real world on a system that can have any number of background processes and other things on the go.
Also performance isn't just dependent on the graphics card but the CPU and even the motherboard as well. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh okay. I know the CPU and GPU are the two most determining factors for FPS scores.
Hmm kinda sucks a two year old game cant be maxed out at 60 fps but I'll guess I can live with it at long its normal.0 -
What graphics card did you have in previously?
Did you use DDU to completely remove the previous GPU drivers?
Have you configured Nvidia Control Panel correctly?
Have you read through the Geforce guide to settings to help you tweak to level of satisfactory performance vs quality - https://www.geforce.co.uk/whats-new/guides/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-graphics-and-performance-guide0 -
I had a gtx 970 before. I uninstalled the nvdia driver from the control panel before I installed the new gpu.
I've actually just noticed a problem with my audio crackling and I'm wondering if it is down to the gpu driver I installed from disk.0 -
Just lower the quality settings.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
