Single Tariff - Air Source Heat Pump

Hi I am trying to find if there are any Electricity Supplier that have an electricity tariff that is good for my house. We have electricity only and hot water and heating is provided by an Air Source Heat pump. Because of the way that heat pumps operate its best to allow them to come on and off when they decide rather than using a timer, so leaving things to happen at cheap rate doesn't necessarily give the best ASHP performance.

Currently we are are supplied by iSupplyEnergy.

Ideally I would Ike a tariff that has a single unit price, day and night (ie not Economy 7) but I have not been able to find any search that lets me specify this.

any heat pump users out there able to advice?

All tariffs that are not E7 or E10 have a single unit price 24/7.

Go to any comparison website and that single unit price is the 'default' selection. The best(cheapest) tariff for you will depend on your geographic area and total consumption.

Hi yes I have tried that but i just seem to get quotes based on the day unit prices, I have been told there are(maybe were) some better tariffs than that.

Going to MSE Cheap energy club, I put "electricity only" and answer no to "do you have an economy 7 meter". I then get prices the same as I'm on dual fuel of about 11.45p/kWh which is the going rate right now. You obviously won't pay a gas standing charge.

My heating is partly via ASHP, but my hot water and heating in some rooms is via a combi boiler.

Have you got an E7 meter at present (do you have a day and night rate) if so you need to untick the box on a comparison site that asks if you've got an E7 meter.

As Cardew says vitually all tariffs that are not E7, E10 or complex tariffs will have the same cost per unit whether it's used at night or during the day.

I agree with you that a single rate tariff may be cheaper than a two-rate one unless you can divert a fair proportion of your energy use to the off-peak times.

We've got an ASHP and it uses most of the energy during the day as we've got the temperatures set back over night. It therefore generally just idles unless it's extremely cold. Even when it's heating the hot water it only takes a couple of kwh so there's no benefit in using an off-peak tariff.

I would also have great difficulty in persuading my wife to do the washing, drying or any other energy consuming chore between the hours of midnight and 7am so we are on the cheapest single rate tariff that I can find..

I do have and E7 Meter and I have got quotes both with the E7 question being answered with Y or N, If I answer it Y i get unit prices for day and night that are different, I I answer it N I get the same answer as I get for day rate if I answer Y to E7.

Am i doing something wrong because I am not seeing a 24 hour rate anything like 11.45 p KwH.

I am in Norfolk.

Possibly. Possibly not.

Economy 7 offers 7 hours of cheap rate electricity every day.
If you don't have E7, then you pay the full rate 24/7

Whilst day rates are there or thereabouts similar to the single rates, depending on the supplier, you may pay slightly more, or slightly less, or the same.
(Standing charges tend to be slightly higher for E7)

Iresa are said by MSE to be the cheapest supplier (based on average consumption)
As you will see, you will pay more for single rate per kWh, than you would for day rates in your region.

Note that if you have an E7 meter, most suppliers will not provide you with single rate tariff unless or until you get the meter changed. The supplier may charge you for such a meter change (typically about £55)

Most suppliers?

I know that BG, Eon and OVO will charge for a single rate if you have an E7 meter. They simply add the off-peak and peak together e.g. 1000kWh peak and 300kWh off-peak is billed as 1,300kWh on 24/7 tariff.

I believe other companies do the same; and someone posted on here recently that all companies will be required to have that facility.

Yes most suppliers. There is a good 50 of them I think, and you have managed to name only 3 that you dsay support a single tariff with an E7 meter.

Admittedly, you say there may be more, but 22 more? I think not.

But I fear you may have missed thr trust of my previous post entirely...;)
