Food on a mousetrap

Can I encourage you to buy a humane trap which catches the mouse but doesn't hurt it? You can then release it into a field or somewhere where it won't bother you again.
The traditional mouse traps can sometimes chop the mouse's nose off, not killing it instantly, but causing it to die a slow and agonising death.0 -

I live in a village surrounded by fields. You release them in the countryside. I'll get them and I will trap them.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

They'll be back  A friend of mine caught a mouse in a *humane* trap, then couldn't face dealing with it. The mouse screamed itself to death. I think I prefer the quick method.
Heard this article on the radio a couple of weeks back - there are more mice this year than for a long time. Might be the warmer weather

Now you've set me off giggling hysterically for the next 2 days.. could you ask if she got a recording? I'd LOVE to hear what a mouse screaming itself to death sounds like... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Oh gosh my eyes are leaking.. And given how squeaky mice are anyway.. How could they determine between screaming and polite requests to be set free??
Maybe it just needed a wee.. ??

Can I encourage you to buy a humane trap which catches the mouse but doesn't hurt it? In a word....No
You can then release it into a field or somewhere where it won't bother you again. No but if it gets anywhere near my house in that field, I`ll get it with my traps!!!
The traditional mouse traps can sometimes chop the mouse's nose off, not killing it instantly, but causing it to die a slow and agonising death. The problem here is that if a mouse chews through your electricals and causes a smouldering fire, it may be you or I that dies a slow and agonising death from smoke inhalation! I`d kill the little varmints every time ![/quote]
I use chocolate spread on traps and poison outdoors. If you are using bait, try and vary the type you use over time as they can become resistant to Warfarin which is in many baits.1/11/06 -1/06/07 BSC #42

We used some Tesco value chocolate spread we had left over from some French students. It worked a treat when we had an infestation in our garage.
Over four days with three traps we caught eight mice. The awful thing was when one was in the trap - dead - it's family members would eat the spread from around its poor dead little nose.:o0 -
peanut butter has always worked for us (our now deceased cat used to bring them into the kitchen still alive and kicking and then drop them so they ran into the cupboards:eek:  ) but on the one time we ran out i used rice which i mixed with a little marg to get it to stick to the trap - worked a treat i think it is the high fat content that does it everytime.0
