How weird, I have just got back from shopping for mouse poison. One of my rented properties has got mice. One jumped in my tenants hair while she was sat on the sofa  Sorry probably shouldn't have told you that :rotfl:

If you have a mouse in the house, chances are there could be more living nearby like in your shed - that's the problem I've got anyway so there's a trap in the house and one in the shed but I'm going to put poison in the shed in case there is a nest. I don't advise putting poison in the house because they disappear and die somewhere leaving you with a horrible smell.

Back to your question, I find sticky things are best rather than a lump of cheese, I've used peanut butter in the past or jam because like someone else said, if its a solid lump they can get it off the trap without setting it off whereas with sticky things they have to hang around at the trap to lick the food off :D

When we've had mice we don't bait the traps with anything. Just position next to the wall that they run along, and they just stumble into them.

I`ve only seen mouse poop today so I`m hoping it`s just come in this morning while I left the back door open?

The poo was in one corner near the kitchen cupboards so thats where I`m going to put the trap.Although all the doors have been open so it could be anywhere in the house.

  • peanut butter works a treat! when we get them we catch at least one a day with a blib of peanut butter, bit messy but does the job. Good luck

Hopefully it's just the one mouse, if you catch it and you gather any more poo evidence then maybe you need to play hard ball with the little blighters. :D If you really don't like mice, you can buy a device that emits something that apparently mice and rats don't like so they steer clear. I've heard they are very effective but never tried it myself. My neighbours cat bought a live mouse into my house a few weeks ago - I behaved like a big girls blouse and stood on the sofa screaming. :rotfl:
  • Asda chocolate and hazelnut spread has worked very well in my home. Unlike the sonic plug-in-thingy that I got from a pest control store.

they like chocolate and bacon rind best.. but we have caught them with rice krispies, bread and a corner of custard cream before.. anything will do.. they are mice!!

Now.. we have Crapper (Cracker.. but he does a lot of the other!! His brother is Noel and couldn't catch a stagnant cold!)).. he catches anything that breathes.. I'm just waiting for him bringing a postman home.. he has had racing pigeons, a snake, frogs and toads, rats, a squirrel and 2 bats.. on Monday I caught him in the garden smiling.. surrounded by no fewer than 10!!!! dead mice AND a big fat mama mouse which was still alive.. I think he was waiting for her to pop before he ate her and the babies.. he is foul!!

peanut butter works well as do those sonic thingies but you need quite a lot of them as they only have a small range - I have one in each room as I can't bear the things
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

I have been using sunflower seeds on mine and in the past two weeks I've caught 11  in the shed. 1 in each trap this morning. :T

They are all a biy slow and thick at the moment anyway as they are looking for places to hibernate.. my cats stomach is proving a good place for many mice! (yes they eat the noses!! AND they eat birds feet and beaks!)

  • You've got loads to work with now, I'm sure, but I always found squished Milky Way to be most effective.

    Good luck!
