John Lewis guarantee limits & "cosmetic damage"
Comments

I'd agree its cosmetic/natural wear & tear. Although it can be helped along by greasy/oily hands (some of which can be present naturally and others may be present due to various things our hands might come into contact with such as moisturiser) or using cleaning products on it.
In fact its so natural, you can buy a sheet of "qwerty" stickers for about £2.
It is most definitely cosmetic though - it doesn't affect the functionality of the laptop or keys.
As its more than 6 months, the burden would be on you not only to prove that the goods fail to conform to contract, but also that the failure is inherent (and hasn't been due to damage/normal wear & tear/misuse).You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Where did I say people were being "horrible"?
Jog on mate.
I've just made a whole post on what your consumer rights are and you've replied with a one liner questioning that tiny bit of my post!
A simple "thank you Stuart for pointing me in the right direction" would suffice next time...0 -
Must admit I would go on Ebay and buy a replacement or recovered set and be done. Sometimes I don't have the energy to argue with these dopes.
18 months is hardy old and its reasonably to expect the keys not to fade with normal use. Its not cosmetic and for most/average person it is impossible to use with most/many of the letters missing.
I remember something similar happened to a cooker I had..........I just said H&S and they sent a nice new set in the post but I don't suppose that will work here! ;-]
JL generally have a good history of decent customer care.0 -

Well you did open with that sweeping statement! Rather undermined what was to follow, but thank you for the detail.0 -

It didn't undermine my integrity in relation to:
1. Sticking up for others when their contributions (practical ideas) are criticised as being "silly posts".
2. Spending a good 10 minutes writing a post which contained relevant information which could help someone get started with their laptop issue.
So I'm happy
