Good Morning chums bright and sunny here although there is a nip in the air.Normal sunday morning for me. The Archers on the wireless. and menu planning and veg prepping for the week.I put a small wash on as its quite sunny outside so hopefully it will be done and dry and I can iron it after lunch before I go to DDs for dinner late afternoon.
I have a busy week ahead so I need to be organised
Book club tomorrow morning,
Coffee morning Tuesday. and quiz night in the evening,
U3A monthly meeting on Wednesday, help out with the teas as well ,
Big shop at our new Aldi's on Thursday as its the opening day,
Friday is History club. I shall meet myself coming back this week:)
That's apart from looking after DDs two dogs at lunchtime and making sure they have had a walk, and being at DDs after school for the boys and keeping an eye on them before their parents come home from work.
Still all good fun.
Just noticed on my calender that there is a big 'knit in' at Rochester Cathedral that I had been 'volunteered' by one of my friends for next Saturday morning as well:):)
Its for the Making Miracles charity and I like to help out when I canso that finishes off my week No wonder the time flies for me at the moment
:):)
I just wouldn't have time to be bored, I retired in 1995 when we downsized to Kent from London and my feet haven't stopped since:):). My eldest DD says I am like Alice's white rabbit always rushing around
:):)
Right I'm off to have a much needed coffee and to get the washing out on the line
Have a good Sunday chums what ever you are doing enjoy it

Morning everyone, thanks for the start Holly, think your nephew does need to try and talk to his Mum and explain.
What a lovely thing for your DB to do TA.
Bit later posting today, have been over to the yard and now back home enjoying bacon butty and coffeeIts much nicer weather today but the fields were quite wet and Miss Lulu very muddy!
Not sure what we will do about food later, we are supposed to meeting up with eldest DSS for an Indian meal but have heard nothing so far, we'll see.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning
Holly Is there another way to look at this strikes me that his mum could be welcomed instead.. bit mean to tell her she cant come when she is obviously missing him so much. Maybe he could see the benefits ? Mums tend to be great at grocery shopping to fill those empty student cupboards and why not get him to take his friends out for a meal so mum can meet them and of course pay. I know when I was at uni parent visits were loved by everyone
Having a lazy ish sunday watching Sunday Brunch ...I have a little crush on Simon Rimmer oddly, must be the chef thing.Had to ignore the fact he looked like an idiot on strictly last night they are obviously trying to make him the class clown.
Have put a BBQ beef joint in the slow cooker for dinner later and may make a pud fancying treacle sponge.
HH good to see you posting0 -
Morning all
Bit brighter here than yesterday so I have stripped the beds and got them in the wm, I will hang them out once done and get oh to remake them later on (I hate that job)
Ive got some stewing lamb out of the freezer and will make a lamb casserole with new pots and veg a nice easy dinner, DD is off out with her young man to the cinema and dinner (lucky for some).
We think we have found the flooring for the kitchen, I have ordered a sample so will see what its like when it comes but it looks good on paper.
DD will finish stripping her walls today ready to paint. And I might be able to persuade OH to build my extra cupboard in the study which is to house the ironing board, airer etc.
AOD I assume your husband is retired ? Is your ds able to work and contribute to the coffers ? Hugs to you xx
Holly, Oh dear your poor nephew, is there anyway you can have a word with your brother and get him to have a word with her ? I can understand her visiting for maybe one night but not after three weeks, she should let the poor lad settle in first x
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all.
Feel a bit better this morning but now just have a sore throat, like millions of others. Unfortunately Mr Fix It is also feeling under the weather although he has run the hoover around downstairs. He's probably got "man flu". :rotfl:
I decided to do a wash this morning because the sun was shining, but now it's gone over cloudy. Never mind it will dry indoors later, if the weather doesn't improve.
The DW is on and the veg prepped ready for lunch. Dad is coming over for a roast pork dinner, he'll have a shock as I've scoured the freezers and couldn't find the pork. So we will have to have a steak pie with the roasties :rotfl:Ooops !
Later I SHALL order the toys from Ar*os ready for pick up tomorrow morning !
Wishing everyone a good Sunday and hugs to all.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Morning all, it is sunny and the towels are on the line, blowing merrily.
I have had 3 vats of tea and need to do a bit if ironing, work clothes for me and pillows lips, I don't iron the crest of the bedding, life is too short.
Red ruby, my OH gave up work 20 years ago. He's a few years younger than me. Our DS has some medical issues and isn't working but he is a volunteer intermittently and is enjoying that. I'm the breadwinner round here.
I'm off to do ironing, later a mate is coming round, OH needs to attack the smoke alarm as it is stopping me from getting any sleep, and I'm cooking roast lamb later, quite a nice relaxed Sunday except I do need to do a but if work as am still covering for a staff member whom I supervise. Another is on holiday but that was planned so obviously she has arranged her stuff around that.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Hi everyone
I have been reading every day, but not had time to post.
Holly Harvey - like you I try not to interfere, but I think you might have to this time. Your sister in law really needs to step back and let her boy just get on with things, however hard it is for her. When my eldest DD first went to uni 4 years ago I felt terrible and really missed her, but knew I wouldn't see her for at least 6 weeks. And also that she wouldn't be home. We talked and texted and I visited in my October school holidays and spent the day with her. Then I didn't see her again till Xmas holidays. Now she is in her fourth year, but it's the same - I visit her when I'm on holiday from school - but I only spend either one full day or stay just one night. I always ask first before booking trains to make sure it's convenient for her and she'll tell me which day would be best. It's very hard to let go and leave them to make their own decisions, but does have to be done.
I've been down to sit with my dad this morning, whilst mam went to church - we sent eldest DD her weekly email, did some banking and sorted out the football ready for him to watch this afternoon. DD is running the Manchester half marathon in aid of dementia Research next Sunday - for her granddad - makes me feel very proud. Then she says she's giving up running - too many hills in Leeds, she preferred it in Amsterdam!
Well I'm going to have a potter in the garden and do some dead-heading as its sunny here and. for once, not windy.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -

Anyways - I retired on medical grounds at 41. I actually last worked when I was 39, and had been on sick leave for two years with zero prospect of ever being well enough to return, and finally, after getting the union involved, they gave me medical retirement; so I get my Civil Service pension, which together with my disability benefits, enables me to pay my way.
Mr LW retired in March 2016, at the age of 66. He'd originally planned to work til he was 70, but his employers were truly making the job a penance, and he was sick and tired of it (and the 60-mile round commute each day). He didn't think he'd have a cat's chance in hell of getting another IT post at his age, so retirement it was.
He has a final-salary pension from a firm he worked for for some years, plus his State Pension - these monthly payments are what he lives on; the pension from his last place of employment is taken yearly on Drawdown, and that forms his Emergency Fund.
Luckily for us we are mortgage-free; when the house was finally sold following my divorcing the Ex, I used my cut to pay off Mr LW's mortgage, and also got my name put on the deeds, so it does in truth belong to us both.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
AOD, I received my state pension at 61 and 6 months but as we had a mortgage to pay I'm retiring in 2 weeks time, just a few weeks before my 66th birthday.
I have no private pension as I lost it in my divorce.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Afternoon all,
domestic squabbles between Mother and Son, i'd stay out of it if i were you HollyHarvey. Stands a chance you wont be thanked for it.
Retirement. Well if the truth is told i have never been in work since having the kids. Having 5 kept me pretty busy but i have tried to go back to work a few times when the kids grew up but things didnt work out. First time it caused arguments between me and Grump and the second time i came back unexpected to find a house full of teens and Youngest in tears. Third time i was faced with a load of too faced female dogs and when it was clear i wasnt one of them it was obvious i wasnt going to fit in.
Did suggest going back to work a few weeks ago, just a few hours at our local primary school but Grump said i could only have time off when the kids had broke up from school which was peak season for going away in the caravan which would wipe out any savings made. I gave up on the idea but i am wondering if i made the right choice even now.
Grump will retire when he drops. Officially he will be 67 (in 13 years time) but he recons he will be long gone by them so he is spending it whilst he's got it. Mainly on motor vehicles but he's letting go of some of it for stuff that needs doing in the house. Talking about vehicles. New car will be collected from the dealership on Saturday.
Grandchildren are keeping me pretty busy at the moment and ive yet to see a smile on 'Livewires' face since 'Little Miss' was born but i'm hoping its just a period of adjustment.
