Hey hope you can help me out

1. I disagree with my PIP decision and wish to appeal, is the appeal a case of filling in and submitting a form/written info or would the claimant need to attend another face-to-face interview?

2. What PIP award would one need to qualify for housing benefit, council tax exception and bus pass?

3. Can lifelong awards be awarded with PIP (like DLA used to be) or is it only for x years? Even given the fact that the medical condition concerned is lifelong and will not change?

No you won’t get a life award, they are reviewable.

No PIP award guarantees you housing benefit or Council tax support. That would depend on your circumstances, other income and savings.

These are the requirements for a bus pass,

Disability

You may be eligible to receive a bus pass if you

§ if you are severely sight impaired (blind) or sight impaired (partially sighted) with either a Certificate of Vision Impairment (CVI) or registered with the Cambridgeshire County Council's Sensory Services Team

§ are severely or profoundly deaf with an overall average hearing loss of 70dB or more with either a audio logical report or registered with the Cambridgeshire County Council's Sensory Services Team

§ are without speech or have limited speech meaning you are unable to make basic oral requests e.g. to ask for a particular destination or fare. This category is not intended to include those whose speech may be slow or difficult to understand, for example because of a severe stammer

§ have a disability or have suffered an injury, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk and qualifies you for the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance

§ do not have arms or have long-term loss of the use of both arms. You will be asked to provide confirmation from your GP or specialist to support your application

§ have a learning disability, that is, a state of arrested or incomplete development of mind which includes significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning. These disabilities must have started before adulthood and have a lasting effect on development. Please note that conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD are not covered by this definition

§ have been or would be refused a driving licence on the grounds of

- epilepsy (have had a attack whilst awake within the last 12 months or an attack whilst asleep within the last 3 years)

- severe Mental disorder

- liability to sudden attacks of giddiness or fainting (whether as a result of cardiac disorder or otherwise)

- inability to read a registration plate in good light at 20.5 meters (with lenses if worn)

- other disabilities which are likely to cause the driving of vehicles by them to be a source of danger to the public

Please note: you will not be eligible if you were refused a driving licence because of persistent misuse of drugs or alcohol.You

The first stage is to write to the DWP at the address on the decision letter and ask them to look at their decision again (i.e asking for a mandatory reconsideration). Here is a proforma request letter:

Keep a copy and get proof of posting. May also be worth contacting them by phone.
The DWP rarely change a decision at MR stage, so be prepared for an appeal.
Be mindful of the time limits!

You mean a MR isn't an actual appeal?

And if I do appeal will I have to go back for another face-to-face interview? Or is it all forms?

The MR comes before the Tribunal Appeal. You can't take it to Tribunal without asking for the MR first.

There's no forms to fill out for the MR. You need to write a letter stating where you think you should have scored those points. See Alice's links! No another face 2 face isn't need for the MR.

Please also note that 80% of MR decisions remain the same so you'll mostly likely have to take it to Tribunal. 65% of those who appear at their tribunal have a decision in their favour. Good luck.

If you don't understand the process after reading this guide, then I would suggest a visit to your local CAB / advice agency.
