Housing benefit and deductions

Hi.
I'm hoping someone can help.
I receive housing benefit, and PIP (both the enhanced rates).
My son has started work and I've been told the council will take away over £76 per week from the housing benefit.
Someone has told me though that as I receive PIP we don't need to have any money taken away, does anyone know the answer?
Its something like non dependent deductions?
Thanks for any help.

I don't know the answer, but I do know that you need to declare this change in household income to your council. Your son is expected to contribute to the rent.
But before you panic, who is telling you these things?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Hi. Thanks for your reply.
It was a friend that told me. No one professional, that's why I wanted to check.
I did find the same information on another site, but not sure if its outdated.
And I told the council as soon as he started work, that's how I know about the £76 that would be taken away.0 -
I think you may be right - "If you or your partner are registered blind or claiming Disability Living Allowance care component (for Universal Credit it must be the middle or higher rate), Personal Independence Payment daily living component or Attendance Allowance then a non-dependant deduction or housing cost contribution will not be taken from your benefits regardless of your non-dependant's circumstances. Thank you so much Alice Holt.
I will call shelter to confirm.
When I went into the council office nothing about not having to pay it was mentioned, it was only talking to a friend and she said she didn't think we would pay it.
£76 a week is a lot to find isnt it. Not as if he's on big money or anything.0 -
If you look at the Shelter website you might find the information you need, and armed with that you can go back to the council.Signature removed for peace of mind0

There are no non dep deductions. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
