Building a fake chimney breast

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to make a arch way in fake chimney breast for the kitchen above my cooker and what height it needs to be at for saftey. The arch way would be about 1200mm wide and from face of chimney back of chimney againts kitchen wall is about 480mm. As this frame will be made from timber batton and be clad with plaster board and skimmed like a partition wall idea i assume it will have decsent fire protection. I just cant seem to come up with a way of making the arch for the plaster board to follow for skimming with out making the arch out of mdf or ply wood first then caldding the plaster to that? (just seems like a lot of wood if i need to go down that road) Must be something else out there to use?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi, I came back to this thread as no-one else replied, I am not a plasterer!
How about cutting curve on the board on the floor before offering it up?
You can get pink fire proof board, don't know what you need though.
Use metal studding, it can be bent to shape, easier than wood.0 -
you can buy the pre made arches at wickes etc.. made out of wire mesh and very light weight.
or make one out of a wood frame and plasterboard.Get some gorm.0 -

min; 700 mm clearance above a cooker/hob , as suggested a pre-formed metal arch, also available in many builders merchants, long time since I used one but I'm sure they are adjustable for width0
