Cheap Energy Club(CEC)

We are members of this club and thank the team for sending notification when our contract with British Gas was nearing its end.
We used the MSE comparison tools to find a cheaper deal and switched.
So why then, once I have entered the new details, does the CEC keep advising I can save still more, but reading the fine print about the cheaper company suggests that MSE is wary of them due to customer comments?! Hence that's why i did not use them!:(

You are being advised of a cheaper offering because, by your own admission, you chose not to accept the cheapest offering, so there is a cheaper offering.

The CEC would be failing if it did not advise you of a cheaper offering when there is one.

I suggest you re-set your alert limits so that they are greater than the amount you can save with the cheaper supplier you opted not to take.

Hi Rosemary,

As pooch mentions above, we'll continue to alert you each month a tariff comes onto the market which you could switch to and save.

In your Cheap Energy Club account you can amend when you'd like us to email you. If you want to receive less emails from us, or would only consider switching if you could save a higher amount, you may want to adjust this in your account.

I see in the account settings one can opt to filter results by say 'Big Name Suppliers' only or those suppliers with 'Good or better MSE Customer Service Ratings'

May I ask, do these filters affect monitoring information/alert notifications, or just the output one sees as results after logging into the CEC account?

Hi pooch,

Yes, these filters would also affect the alerts that you receive from us. For example if you select in your account that you only want to compare 'Big Name Suppliers', we'll only email you about tariffs from these suppliers. You can of course amend these at anytime.

There should be a little warning message that pops up once you click Save changes.

In the same way that Ofgem makes it clear that when it awards a Supply Licence that it gives no undertakings whatsoever that the person/s running the business are 'fit and proper' then it is unreasonable to expect a PCW to vet 50 or so suppliers - even if the suppliers would allow them to do so. The warnings are based, I suspect, on forum feedback; Ofgem investigations and complaints data.

All CEC is telling you is that you could save money by switching. At the end of the day, caveat emptor applies.
