 After this fiasco with abbey, and still no card after 2 weeks now
I am going to change my current account. I am unsure which bank to go with. I need a switch card and cheque book. Paying in my salary which is approx £1300 a month and have loads of direct debits leaving the account and I need online banking.
Any advice?

As you're a Scottish lass I would have no hesitation in recommending Bank of Scotland who can offer all you need including internet banking, IASA if you want to get decent interest on any current a/c balance, cheque books, direct debits AND people in Edinburgh who talk to you when you want something (hope that's acceptable to someone in Glasgow!).
I've had accounts with them for 15years or more, they used to be brilliant for service, not so good since they absorbed Halifax, but no real complaints.
By the way I'm in Buckinghamshire as well so no Scottish bias here.0 -

Any bank will give you a debit card and a cheque book.
What are you looking for in a bank account?
Is it customer service or high interest rates on your current account?
Do you want/need access to a branch?
If you are after the best customer service try First Direct or Nationwide - they are generally top of the customer service tables.
Both have branches and offer online banking - in First Direct's case you can use any HSBC branch or any Post Office in Scotland.
If you want high interest rates, try A&L though many of their high rates only last a year and their online banking/customer service can leave something to be desired...
Its difficult to give a recommendation without more knowledge..
