Which Memory Card Can I Buy

im buying a memory card for my pc and was told to get Kingston 512 MB DDR 266 MHz Memory CL2 Gold - this means nothing to me, anyway the place where I was told to buy it from has not had it in stock for over 8 weeks now so could someone please let me know of any other types I can buy for my PC - it's a Packard Bell RAM 256 modem 56 kbps - as I know nothing techie thought best to ask you guys.

  • What do you need it for :) What you specified was Memory (as in RAM) which is internal for the computer. A memory card allows for external storage for example....

    So why are you buying one for your pc :) what purpose.

    to make pc bit quicker as its very slow - had a pc guy to look at it and thats what he recomended
  • The problem you have is that as its a very very old pc, it will only support very very old RAM.

    Your best option would be to buy a budget pc with windows XP on.. look at the lower end of the Dell pc's from their website for example....

    could i not just buy something to make it a bit faster - its not that old, bought pc brand new just over 3 years ago - just want it to go bit faster when im on internet - got broadband but it takes awhile. Thanks for your reply.

    Go to https://www.crucial.com and run the system scanner there and it will tell you what your options are. You don't have to buy from them (although their prices are normally OK). You could also have a look on ebay.

    RAM would probably still be cheaper than a new PC but it depends if you want to invest in an old machine.

  • Download CPU-Z (freeware) and let me know what model motherboard you have, current Memory/RAM and how many slots are free :) Also the processor.

    free slots - 1
    Current memory 256 mb
  • I need the exact motherboard model number :)

    Also there should be more technical information about the RAM such as speed :)
