Mitchell's Dairy Cafe in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire is to close:
Mitchells The Dairy in Inverurie has announced it will close its doors for the final time on October 26.

The official announcement comes after weeks of speculation in the town that the shop and cafe might close.

The business is jointly owned by Patrick Mitchell, Keith Whyte and Judy Whyte, who is also a councillor in the Inverurie area.

A statement released through The Clique Consultancy said: “The challenging trading environment in the area over recent years, coupled with changing consumer shopping habits and rising overheads has resulted in many traditional businesses, like The Dairy Shop and Tearoom, being less able to successfully compete with discount grocery stores and online shopping.

Whilst business conditions are challenging up here just now, a very great part of this firm's loss of business has undoubtedly been due to the activities of CEL in their car park. No matter just how much of a "destination" this place has been, people just won't go back after being hit for a ticket.

Interesting to see a co-owner of this place is also a councillor, considering the failed trading standards action. Hmmm..!

The article makes no mention whatsoever of CEL, tickets or even the word parking - I guess you're speaking from the basis of local knowledge?

Yes, a fair bit - CEL have really hacked-off a lot of people in the town and surrounding area in the last few years and Mitchell's flat refusal to engage with them to get cancellations for genuine customers etc has also been noted.

Which is a shame as the firm is a long-established and well-loved Aberdeenshire institution.

Worked with a guy who came from the papermill there when it was there. He went down to the mill hall to look for someone in charge and was told "ben the hoose".

So off he went looking for Ben.

If anyone wants a life changing event, try the pubs in Inverurie.
